Maggie nailed a dove
Darn it all! I've got a gazillion white wing doves at my backyard feeders, and I just happened to see Maggie the Puppy Pie running one down. He's basically OK and is actually pretty perky, but has enough of a wing injury that he can't fly. So, out with the old cockatiel cage, in with the dove, and off we go to the Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition this afternoon. Poor little guy.

Hard not to get upset with our dogs when they behave this way isn't it? Maggie the Puppy Pie - LOL. She's a black lab isn't she Jen? That's just in her nature. Same with our Golden, digging up my bag yard to find those pesky moles. She's just trying to rid us of them, is all. I don't encourage her digging but I try not to get too upset with her. Once Hope and her best canine friend Tillie, black lab that lives nearby were playing with a toy I thought. They were both flinging a dark colored stuffed animal up in the air and it kept hitting the ground. I thought Tillie came over with it in her mouth and was letting Hope share it. Turns out it was a mole one of them got out of the ground. While I didn't exactly feel sorry for the mole, it was funny to watch. They never actually bit into it, but just kept this game up until I could distract them. I flung the mole into the woods, where they were digging at the time (now moles have entered Hope's territory, figures). Neighbors told me I should have killed it. I've never killed an animal deliberately, only running over a baby bird with the mower that fell out of nest once and over a squirrel with the car, so I couldn't think of doing that.
I imagine it's pretty busy at your house - your dogs are probably going nuts wanting outside!

Heya Mary! Actually, Maggie is a dal x lab mix. Generally she focuses on chasing the squirrels and totally ignores the birds. We have a 17 year old cockatiel inside that she knows to leave alone on pain of death.
There's a pic of me & the Mag Pie on one of the pic pages here - page 8 I think? Even though she ran down Mr. Dove, hers is still my wittles schweetums pie! (Can you tell I'm childless?!)

Jen - yes I can tell your pets are your children. However I have two daughters but say my dog Hope is my full fledged third daughter! True, I say this all the time. I honestly feel like I gave birth to her, she is usually with me, or nearby. My family joke they can always tell where I am in the house, b/c Hope is nearby. If I run an errand she plops down by the door, watching and waiting until I come home. Even if I walk out to the mailbox, she sits by the window watching me. I get the biggest greeting just from getting the mail!
Never thought I'd be this crazy about a dog. So I can see why your Maggie is a daughter and so is your bird.
Before Hope, I hadn't had a pet in 24 years. That is a long span w/o dog or cat hair floating around or getting on your clothes (or new black peacoat, big color mistake there!). I resented all the hair and constant attention for about 6 months and used to shout out - I know why there are so many ads in the paper for FREE, 6 month old dog, etc. But between 6 and 9 months, she hooked me. Big time. I regret the harsh words I used back then! I've only told her this about 100 times since, slathering her with doggie kisses.
We'd be a real pair. I have all sorts of cute nics for Hope too. The only one I use most is just simply - Baby.
