Have you ever had so much e-mail spam

#1 Postby weatherlover427 » Fri Jun 06, 2003 9:21 am

that you had to have your account deleted? Or some other similar drastic measure taken? I did have that done yesterday, and I do not regret it. It will hopefully teach those dumb spammers a lesson. Muahahaha.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you won't teach them a lesson. :( They will probably just redirect all their spam that was sent to your e-mail account into mine. :o LOL!

I have a spam blocker program that is supposed to fool spammers by sending them error messages to make them think that your e-mail address does not exist. But it makes my comp hang on shutdown. :(

We had to get our email changed. Most of the advertising we got was due to stuff we (my wife) requested, or didn't opt out of. We were able to eliminate about 50% by simply unsubscribing. But when we went to some adult sites, unsolicited spam poured in. And nasty stuff too. We resorted to changing our email address and swore off of the adult sites.

Spaming rule

#8 Postby CZonian » Fri Jun 06, 2003 12:55 pm

If it's not know I would suggest using the rules function.

I set up a rule that checks the senders address with those in my Address Book, if it finds a match then it arrives in the INbox otherwise it's redirected to another folder for future viewing.

Not the best solutions, but it prevents surprises.

Just a thought.

i was told not to use the unsubscribe feature the spammers have because it just shows them this is a good address and then it(your e-mail addy) get sold to others. I've tried using set up to block certain words in the subject line but some of the things that show up in my subject line is my accual e-mail addy. Maybe I'll try to block certain senders but I must get more than 20 a day.

Earthlink seems helpful

#10 Postby CZonian » Fri Jun 06, 2003 3:17 pm

Earthlink holds all known spams. It's part of the service (itsNthere - like on the car commercials) no extra charges.

It flags them under known spams folder via earthlink web email.

I am letting my bellsouth account hit the max on e-mails,
not having checked it for weeks, so, the mail will be continuously
returned, in hopes they give up. If not, I will change my account,
as well. Bellsouth claimed, in a USAToday poll, that, they spent
2$ a month, per person, on Spam control. I have yet to see
any "control" of any kind take place!

I'm with Bellsouth too. They may screen mail for spam when you use their "web" based email. But I prefer the pop access, so I'm on my own.

I use an application called MailWasher. It is free, and it allows you to peek into your inbox and mark emails for deletion or "bouncing". I can delete and/or bounce email before it is ever downloaded.

OMG do I hate spam :grrr: :grrr:

I get 10 emails a month from some stupid idiot in Africa that thinks I'm gullible enough to believe he's got "14 million" dollars (amount varies) from some American dude that died there -- and it's ALL Mine :D ...IF I send him $10,000. I'm tempted to email the stupid dufus back and say "Okay friend....you send me the 14 million, and I'll gladly send you ten grand as a tip

I also get porno junk once in a while....and I've never figured out why. If I visited porno sites (which I don't), I wouldn't be stupid enough to do it from my primary email addy.

I have junk mail folders on all services, and delete them daily...sometimes, several times daily.

I can tell you, though, that I am SO tired of being told (a) my wife needs "watermelons", and/or (b) I need a "kielbasa"... :grrr:
