they noted on the local News tonight that tonight will be the night that the Night Blooming Cereus will bloom in Tucson. These flowers bloom on only ONE night of the year in early to mid June and herald the imminent approach of the High Heat of Summer which appears to be due in about 2-3 weeks after which the monsoon will approach us. One of the wonders of the Sonoran Desert.

I don't know Ed, I don't know Ed "LOL!" Nice double post!
We've got a tree up here called a New Mexican Locust, unlike the Cereus flower, it blooms for a week but the same legend, when the tree produces it's flowers, the heat is on and the rains aren't too far behind.
I've heard of the Cereus but have never witnessed this amazing show in person.

Yes
the Night Blooming Cereus does produce a large bloom. I've seen them on the News but also haven't seen them in person. I remember last year that they had a special segment on the night News the night the flowers bloomed.
