Hopefully you guys can answer

Like it says in my Bio, I am in the midst of a Summer Student Satellite Internship here in Milwaukee. We are building, launching and tracking a high altitude balloon. This Internship is through NASA! Anyways, we are having problems with finalizing the name of our project. Here are our final six:

Aeolus: (Greek) King of Wind
Phosphoros: (Greek) God of Morning Star (He was depicted as a naked youth running ahead of his mother; bearing a torch)
Icarus: He built wings with feathers and wax, but flew to close to the sun and his wings melted. Unfortunately, he fell into the water to his death.
Pyxis: Constellation; forenamed the compass
Ilmarinen: (Finnish) Lord of Wind and Good Weather
USS Macabi: US Navy WWII submarine (built in Manitowoc)

Please tell me your decision. Right now, the group members and I are having a hard time deciphering which name to call our project...that's where you guys come in. Hopefully, this may help us decide.

I pick Aeolus since the wind will carry your project away. :D

I'm an Icarus fan. Also makes for a neat little acronym...call it Dizzy "ISSI"!

Another quick story for you...I promise.

When back in IL, the police found a huge balloon with instruments attached out on a farmer's field. They kept the balloon itself, but brought ME the box with the instruments. Was from Germany. They eventually got in touch with them. I still saved a piece of the wrap of the instrument box....souvenir of course.

Good luck with the project.

Poppysky, wow! it flew all the way from Germany...goodness! I have a feeling that the balloon was caught on a plane crossing the Atlantic. Either way, its still amazing.

I like Aeolus. I think Josh is right, it just seems appropriate. Good luck with picking a name. :)

I chose Ilmarinen... because of the winds carrying the balloon at high altitude and also you need good weather to accomplish this. Plus the name fits the balloon.

I agree with Lindaloo. Ilmarinen is my pick because of what the project is dealing with. You also hope for good weather to keep your project safe.

This is so far.

Aeolus 6 votes
Ilmarinen 4 votes
Icarus 1 vote

My advisor (professor) likes Icarus. I thought to myself after he said that... Duh, he's the one that thought about Icarus. I've emailed my friends about the naming issue and they liked Ilmarinen and Pyxis. I guess when we get together tomorrow we'll have to decide the name for our project.
