I-95 Rock Attacker Search Continues More Stories
06-11-2003 07:09:PM
(Spotsylvania, VA) -- Virginia State Police are still searching for whoever dropped a 70-pound rock from the Route 607 overpass onto traffic along busy I-95 over the weekend. A newlywed woman was critically injured. Virginia State Police spokesman Eric Futrell says someone, or some group, carried the huge rock onto the Guinea Station Road overpass early Sunday with the intent of hurting someone. The 70-pound chunk of granite hit the hood of a Saturn and crashed through the windshield. A New York state woman remains in critical condition at Inova Fairfax hospital with head injuries. Virginia State Police want to hear from drivers who saw anything suspicious late Saturday or early Sunday along that overpass in Spotsylvania County

There's been motorists injured or killed in those kinds of crimes down here in NC...I remember one time seeing a woman interviewed who lived somewhere up north (Northeast or New England) who was permanently visually-impaired because of some idiot who unloaded a boulder on to her vehicle!
In other incidents like this a woman was killed and also one time a father and son from Canada were heading home and the son was maimed!
Just don't understand these kooks who get their "cheap kicks" by doing that!

Yeah, this happened down here a few years ago like Skywatch said. One guy lost his eye and another was killed. It's more than just proof of ignorance, it's actually quite scary. Scary to think that you could be driving along, minding your own business, and just happen to be in the wrong lane at the wrong time going under the wrong underpass and end up getting seriously injured or killed.

Definitely!

My wife and I were driving along I-80 in PA towards Ohio one night a few years back and I heard something hit the side of the car. We slowed down and I swear I saw several people (probably teenagers) running into the woods near the side of the road. When we got off the road, I noticed the car had a few dents and scrathces that looked like they were caused by rocks. I just think it's pathetic that there are people who think it's funny to do these types of things.

Its happened here...
My husband was injuried last year when some kids near a school threw a brick from an overpass threw the windshield of a bus my husband was test driving on I-10 after fixing it.
He was riding as a passenger and the rock shattered the windshield - he had quick enough reaction to throw his hands up but he was cut up pretty bad - later that night his eye started hurting - had to take him to the emergency room - he had slivers of glass embedded in his eye. His company had a piss poor attitude about his injury - he soon found another job and left it.
As for as the kid who did this - the cops went to the school offering an reward - but no one come forward - needless to say it can happen to anyone at anytime.
