More un-nerving news from Hampton Roads, Virginia

#1 Postby mamadude » Sat Jun 14, 2003 6:03 pm

A woman loading groceries in her car was run down in a Norfolk parking lot Friday afternoon.

The woman, in her 70s, was found on the ground next to her car at the Food Lion at Tidewater Drive and Cromwell Road just after noon. The trunk of her brown Ford Fairmont was open and groceries were inside.

Police said she had no identification and there was none in her vehicle, so robbery could have been the motive. Witnesses told police a white four-door Dodge Dynasty with tinted windows left the scene.

This is the kind of vehicle seen leaving the scene of a hit and run.
A long-time resident of the area told 13News' Dale Gauding, "It's a shame that our elderly people can't shop for groceries and be safe."

Police are reviewing the security camera videotape from inside the store to see if there's anything that can help locate the hit and run driver.

A Food Lion executive flew to Hampton Roads to work with police and keep customers safe. Also, counselors are on hand for store workers who need help.

That is a sad story. :( It is unfortunate that we all have to watch our backs everywhere we go.
