How have your driving habits changed?

With gas in the "ridiculous" range, how's your driving habits? Mine have changed a LOT........sadly, we're NOT going to Flagstaff anymore, I'm now FORCED into shopping WalMart :roll:

We're combining trips, waiting sometimes 2-3 days just to go to Post Office, we'll wait until we need something else (beer :lol:

) before we go.

I don't care HOW much gas is, we're STILL going on vacation in Oct, I don't care, I'm SO burned out, I'm NOT sacraficing this trip, unless I'm in NOLA with my SAR Unit.

hahaha ...I think we were reading each other's minds! (See my post) I can't even imagine what it would cost to drive to visit my family in Chicago! But, in answer to your question, yes, my driving has changed. No fun trips to downtown just to goof off and grab lunch with my husband, which will hurt the local economy if we are not the only ones. Our "local" places have gone way down to within 5 miles instead of 10 to 20.

Fortunately we live in the middle of a small town. There's a dollar store right next door, a 24-hour mini mart around the corner, a pharmacy about a block away, etc. The kids are walking to school (unless the weather is bad).

Through the summer I biked to work about 1/3 of the time, and I took vacation days on all fridays this summer. It's about 12 miles to my work by bike (45 minutes) and 15 by car (20 minutes). I might start riding the bus again. There's also a co worker that lives near me that we could carpool.

Since I'm the one that pays the bills, everyone else in the family isn't feeling the pinch. So I have to be the "enforcer."

Debi has to resort to picking up my oldest stepson (thank God he works at the same place!) so that they can share the gas load...BUT this means that she has to leave by 4:30 AM to come back at 5:30 PM (their shifts are different, and overlap).

I still have to drive a 60-mile roundtrip drive to work, Mon-Fri.

But, I don't pull up the the small-town stores and leave the car running,
anymore - I turn OFF the ignition.

I don't go driving just to "check something out" or see if "so-and-so"
is home, anymore. I don't make any unecessary trips - I MUST have
a legitimate reason to drive somewhere.

That's the best that I can do for my part.

I drive 100 miles round trip everyday to work in Atlantic City. That's about 4 gallons of gas a day. I've always done my errands on the way home from work because frankly when I get home, I want to stay home. That will not change. I saw regular gasoline at $3.29 yesterday.

i've started walking a lot more and riding my bike to the video store and for small grocery trips. there is no gas here. it's been gone for two days and no word when it's coming back. we've been making do with what's in the pantry and the freezer. we've become quite innovative!

I've given up eating instead. Seriously.

Get yourself an Igloo cooler and take a packed lunch...that's what I do when doing volunteer work at my Dad's state division of water quality dept.

Cars are just collecting dust.... Don't drive unless it is a emergency...Grocery shopping 1 day a week ...Yes it is at Wally World, although their prices are starting to rise...

K-Mart and Target prices are probably starting to rise, too...

Don't supermarkets sell single serve ones...such as what one may order from Pizza Hut for ie?
