Michael Keaton to serve as Bacchus in 2006

03:18 PM CST on Wednesday, November 16, 2005

WWLTV.com

Michael Keaton, the actor who starred in Batman, Beetlejuice, Mr. Mom and several other comedies and later dramas, will reign as Bacchus XXXVII it was announced Wednesday.

Publicists for the Carnival organization said Keaton was busy shooting a movie in New Orleans when Katrina was approaching and later was moved by scenes of the devastation.

The group said Keaton agreed to serve as Bacchus as a way of showing the country that New Orleans would come back.

Bacchus is one of a handful of organizations that has announced an intention to parade in 2006. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said he would like the celebration cut from 11 days to six for the coming year.
