Another post got me remembering this.
When in Illinois, my passion for weather became so much a part of who I was that when the tornado sirens went off, my phone would ring....and ring...and ring.
"Steve, did you hear the sirens? Should we go to the basement? IS it going to be bad?
And I wish I had a photo of my entire neighborhood when ominous skies began to approach and I'd go out in the yard and look upward at the churning sky and feel the wind and smell the rain and take it all in.
I was in ecstasy (or something like it), and they were scared s***less!
While I was looking upward and assessing all that was going on....the rest of those in the neighborhood had their noses pressed to the window, kids huddled around them in fear.
But the photo I wish I had taken was not of the sky or the clouds or the impending storm...but instead of the neighbors paying little attention at all to the sky...and a whole lot of attention to me.
For if I headed for the house...especially in a hurry...THAT was their signal to worry and take cover.
As long as they could see me...all was right with the world!
Any similar experiences by you weather buffs?
