Average grocery bill

#1 Postby azsnowman » Sun Jun 29, 2003 7:16 am

I hope this isn't too personnal, just curious, what do you spend for groceries on the average? For the 2 of us, we spend around 250$ a month this time of year, winter, around 350$, cuz we cook more in the winter than the summer.

I cannot believe the price of groceries, we went and did our shopping for the month yesterday and my God, the price increase on the staples, bread, rice, beans etc has gone up at LEAST 25% :o

I could tell you to the penny if I looked. I have my entire budget and expenses on a spreadsheet, Dennis...dating back to 1991!

On the average here for 2 1/2 of us (Jarrod checks in on the way home from work to see what's cookin) and occasional guest...we run about $425 a month.

With 3 adults, 3 dogs, and 4 boys who are constantly hungry, our budget for groceries is $800 a month. That includes toiletries, paper products, cleaning and laundry supplies, though.

My parents and I always spend around $100 a week on groceries, just about to the penny. I help out a couple times a month along with some other things, including a few upgrades on the house.

I obviously wouldn't be making money if I spent more per month.

Around $175 a month. That includes household items, toiletries
and such, and dog food. Through the week, I always eat out
for lunch (I rarely eat breakfast), and, I might eat a sandwich
or something light, later in the evening, when I get home
from work.

My figure didn't include dog food, geeesh......if I added that into the #'s........we spend on the average of $20 week for dog food, this includes the actual food PLUS dog cookies and other treats, we have to, that goes along with the SAR training, they now get the cheap WalMart brand of hot dogs for treats during training. Now are far as cleaning supplies, paper goods etc, we hit the $ store that stuff, can't afford to buy it at Safeway for crips sake, a 12 pack of Northern toilet tissue at Safeway, 5.99$, same brand, same size at the $ store, 3.00$, that's HALF PRICE!

We usually go on a Saturday or Sunday, and our average bill a week is around $75. Not bad for a family of 3 I guess...

We get Iam's cat food for our two Siamese cats every two and a half months, hopefully we will be getting it every three or so months now... they need to lose some weight.

You know food prices are too doggone high when Granny is fussing about high prices all the way from checkout counter to the car....at the "bargain" supermarket she's always bragged about to her friends and relatives as the cheapest grocer in town :D

That's ok,Perry. Her B-day is coming up soon. She's allowed to fuss as much as she wants.

About $300 a month for 3. If they want snacks they buy it themselves.

My mom spends around $400 a month for groceries. My dorky little brother has a bottomless pit! Anyways, if I'm on campus, I usually spend around $150 a month.

Nope not a typo on the 200 a week for dog food. My dogs eat 100 pound bags of food in a few days. I have 5 BIG dogs. All my animals are spay or neutered and they get their shots, flea treatments etc. However their vet says they are overweight. lol. I have a St. Bernard, two Rottweillers, Irish Setter and a German Shepherd. All rescued by the way. :)

I spend about $175 a week on average for a family of four.
That includes toiletries, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, cat food etc. this summer the kids seem to be bottomless pits so I may have to up my summer spending to $190 a week. Hubby packs his lunch for work though, so in all even though I spend alot at the store, he isn't spending $40 a week on lunches and soda.

It sounds like my mother, father and myself spending $100 a week is pretty low.

My wife and I average about $80 per week at the store. But we often eat at restaurants (at least 3 times a week), otherwise we would probably spend closer to $100 per week.
