There's A Serial Killer On The Loose In Denver!!

#1 Postby wx247 » Tue Jul 01, 2003 6:54 am

A cat serial killer that is... read on for more...

DENVER, Colorado (AP) -- Four more dead cats have been found in the Denver area, heightening fear among pet owners that a serial cat killer is in their midst.

Authorities say at least 40 mutilated cats have been discovered in Denver and its suburbs in the past year, including four killed over the weekend. The toll in Salt Lake City is 10 cats and another unidentified animal.

Christy Hughes had stopped reading stories about the attacks. Then her husband found the eviscerated body of their 15-year-old cat, Bugsy, outside the front door of their Aurora home two weeks ago.

"I blame myself, because had I read it, I never would have let my cat outside," she said Monday. "I've had a hard time forgiving myself for that."

Authorities are worried that despite the attacks, pet owners still are letting their cats roam outside.

"I've had people say, 'They don't like to stay inside,"' said Temma Martin, spokeswoman for Salt Lake County Animal Services. "Well, look at the stakes here."

In several cases, it appears the attacker kills the cat, then taunts the owner by bringing back the remains. Some of the animals were cut with surgical precision. Some may have been killed by another animal.

The Colorado penalty for aggravated cruelty to animals is up to 18 months in jail and a $100,000 fine.

Hughes said Bugsy was attacked sometime between 1 a.m., when he last went out, and 6:15 a.m., when he was found dead.

She said she is "retraining" her two kids and husband not to let their two kittens outside anymore.

"For a week I couldn't sleep because I just kept seeing my cat over and over," she said. "It breaks my heart seeing somebody else go through this."

This is just sick. I'm a cat lover here but first and foremost, an animal lover too. Hope they catch this creep. I'd be keeping my cat inside. Oh those poor cats, what they suffered thru. This guy is an abused person too, somewhere in his past, to inflict such cruelty on innocent animals, that's not an excuse but the second thing I thought of when I read this story. First was to think of the poor animals.

That's sick, and also very concerning....

When someone feels the urge to mutilate and murder a small animal, it's their way of "being in control...total power like a God". It's a psychotic lust for power....and sometimes these type of individuals become bolder; graduate from murdering cats and other small animals....to killing humans (usually children and others helpless to defend themselves).

That is sick! At first I thought that it could be a wild animal that has visited the backyards, but if the cuts were "surgically precise", then it is some sicko that is out there. My father's girlfriend lives in Denver - her cat Scotty does stay inside though.

I'd happily volunteer to be "surgically inprecise" on that nut when they finally catch him (or her)! :grrr:

This is just gross......... Hope they catch this "thing" very soon. Poor cats! I'm not much of a cat lover but these types of issues just make me sick.

Just makes me sick reading stuff like that... I love animals.. of any kind.

You are right Miss Mary, this person has to have been through some kind of mental anguish of great proportions to do such a thing.

How you can hurt another living thing like that is just beyond my thought process.

Oh gosh. Izzy'll be hearbroken when she gets there sometime Sunday, she loves pets. I'll tell her to keep her 15 or so animals back in Topeka. Lol.

Why would someone kill an animal? It's not Korea....
