Fatal Plane Crash in Branson, MO

#1 Postby alicia-w » Mon Mar 20, 2006 3:22 pm

A twin-engine plane crashed and burned in the resort city of Branson on Monday, killing all four people aboard, officials said.

The plane went down along the city's main entertainment strip after taking off from Point Lookout, Missouri, for a flight to Lubbock, Texas, FAA spokesman Tony Molinaro said.

The pilot reported some kind of difficultly and tried to return to the airport, Molinaro said. The plane crashed near the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum.

Robert Whitson, a clerk at the museum, said the wreckage was burning after hitting a storage unit behind the museum.

Skies in the area were overcast, but there were no storms or unusual weather at the time of the crash, the National Weather Service said.

The aircraft was flying under instrument flight rules and was registered to a dentist, according to Greg Martin, another FAA spokesman.

Branson is a cluster of nightclubs and theaters in the Ozark Mountains.
