Are you a pretender?

#1 Postby Gtmalacd » Tue Mar 28, 2006 4:28 pm

I mean do you act differently online than you do offline? Do you imagine yourself being something your not? I tend to act differently online than I do offline, that is because here in guate there is not much communication and not a whole lot to do. Anyways, I act differently online for some reason, do you?

I am a lot more outgoing when online. The only place I really communicate is here and our chatroom. I am home a lot alone, hubby works real long hours, so I come here to get a life..... :ggreen:

I am exactly the same online as off. I always make an effort to have fun in life.

I'm an old fart here and also in real life. I don't know how many people would admit to being a pretender, but as a newcomer, Gtmalacd, you should know that S2K is not about playing games behind a cloak of anonimity (spelling?). We strive to be genuine and concerned about each other. Those are some of the values we espouse.

BTY, welcome to the board, and play nice.

Kinda hard to judge yourself, but I think I am the same old person on and off line. I may be a little more up front in person, once I get to know ya. But I do not purposly try to pretend I am someone I am not. Why? I like who I am. :cheesy:

Ditto, ditto, ditto!

Old fart here too. I waited to see who would come forward to admit their online personality is different than in real life. Not many would admit that, BTW. Agree with Ed.

That said, this is who I am. What you see here is the real me. I'd be as friendly in person as online. However, I must admit I wouldn't be running out the door meeting new online friends at the local cafe either. There's a fine line here, we want to trust that the other person is legit, as nice as they appear to be but, there's always that 'but', you often hestitate and ask yourself that question - could a person be this nice? We do put our best foot forward here I suspect.

But again, this is the real me. Take it or leave it.

Mary

PS - I echo Ed's suggestion to play nice.

I'm probably a little more brash online than I am in person (if that's possible), but the rest is all me, G.

I am more outgoing online than I am in real life. Other than that I am pretty much the same but, I think everyone is different online.

One thing about being online in a group as great as Storm2k and their chatroom and making new friends, kind of like a family, is that we sometimes are able to come out and talk a little more personal then if we had to talk about certain situations at home or work. Storm2k has enough members who have similiar lifestyles, hobbies and interests as I do, so I find Storm2k a good place to vent and feel comfortable. Sometimes it is a little hard to really express yourself openly in other places.

Same here - it is just so much easier to join a conversation online.

I tend to be skeptical of people who join a weather board and go straight for the OT forum, especially when they join under an anonymous Yahoo profile that was just created on the same day they joined. Makes me wonder what they're hiding.

And yes, I'm just as skeptical offline as I am on -- to answer the question. :)

I am only skeptical of people who always challenge any question. You know when they answer your questions it is not to add input but to stir up trouble or confuse the whole situation. Always negative behavior. I do not give out personal information on myself, so those people are not a threat to me.

I am skeptical sometimes too, but whatever you are referring to doesn't mean anything. You see in guate most peope use yahoo because it is much easier and faster when sending emails and so forth. The connections we have down here suck big time and you have to pay an arm and leg to get DSL, which is rather expensive, but luckily we are fine money wise to afford it. I have been perusing many weather forums before, and I am assuming you are referring to me. As a matter of fact, I looked at the tropics because time is nearing for our season to start revving up. It has been very warm and rainy, as well as humid. Now, if it pleases you I can stop posting and go away. Just let me know.

I'm a bit more willing to speak my mind online, than in person. At least with people I don't really know.
