What was the highlight of your Independence Day?

There were several highlights that stick out in my mind.....my grandmother blowing out the candles on her birthday cake, and the smile on her face.....talking on the phone with my sister and her three kids...seeing hometown hero and former POW Ron Young Jr and his family....not to mention seeing two parades in person, and two fireworks shows on tv (neither I or my Granny felt like battling the crowds tonight at Arbor Place mall); but the highlight of my day occurred this morning at the Douglasville 4th of July parade...

Granny and I sat and watched the parade in front of the Douglasville police station, and witnessed the total pride and joy of two small children when they recognized their father (a police officer); who was driving his D.A.R.E. patrol car in the parade and stopped to give them a hug and some candy. The little girl blew her dad a kiss when he returned to his vehicle and said "I love you daddy"....and his little boy told me "that was my daddy", and when he grew up "I'm going to be a policeman too...just like my dad" (and I bet he will too

Just seeing the excitement of children, especially that officer's little boy and girl made my day. It brought back great memories of my dad and mom when I was little, and made me feel like a kid again

If one can call it that, awakening with my left eye swollen shut; oozing something sticky all day, burning, and no doctor to see...or insurance to see one.

Other than that, this Independence Day was an all-time BORE.

I spent it with my mom and a family friend. That was the fun part. But it was HOT where I was - must have been between 85-90°! :o

I spended most of the day in the warm and sunny beach of Luquillo with my family and watched on TV last night the Macy's fireworks.

Well, watching the "works" on the National Mall with between 500, 000 and a million people is always nice. It was spectacular, to say the least.

Also, realizing , after a week of being "home" in 100% humidity and 90's for temps, that my skin problems cleared up, makes me homesick. Living in NY weather can be brutal, but I love the heat and humidity of the DC area. Some can't stand it, but it energizes me. Always did, always will

Perry, don't think I can top your highlight. You, sir, have the wonderful ability to see miracles going on around you while others walk on by and notice nothing.

Without a doubt........"The Block Party of the Century!" So many ppl, so much food, people talking with neighbors they didn't know, hugging etc.

We had a BBQ and had some friends and family over. It was nice just being with the people we care about most and having a good time. I'm sure the alcohol had something to do with that, LOL. We set off some awesome fireworks too. Chad did have a little incident with a firework blowing up/backfiring or something. No injuries though! It was a great 4th of July for us! Hope everyone else's was too.

My highlight was OUR fireworks display, we get our own fireworks from a firework tent down the street from me, and we lit all of them off last night... it was WAY cool....we do that every year!

Well, Perry, I agree with skyman...you do have that special ability to see the wonders around you.

Our cookout/pool party get together was postponed yesterday because it rained almost all day, though most of it was light. It's been raining all day today too so it is being postponed once again unless it clears up right away. (not likely)

BUT....it did quit raining last night long enough for hubby and I to pack up the little ones and head downtown for the big fireworks show. We got there a little early and we had a spectacular view. Unfortunately, when you're that close, debris also falls on you. Mostly just small pieces of cardboard and some fire sparks every once in a while. No sparks hit us though.

It was awesome and the kids loved it. My 16 month old baby girl just kept pointing to the sky and clapping......that was a highlight enough to make up for the ruined plans from earlier in the day. Just watching her face light up made my day. I was surprised that the loud booms didn't scare her a little, but they didn't.

We'll have our pool party when the rain lets up, maybe tomorrow, but we had a marvelous time last night in our fold out chairs watching the awesome fireworks display!!!

LoL, Perry, I got the house cleaned, and, I could not
be happier!

BTW, our clan is grilling out, tomorrow - my sis-in-law
had to work 7p - 7a, all weekend, so we're saving the good
eatin' for tomorrow!

My highlight was getting pulled over as we were driving home. Apparantly I was distracted by all the fireworks as I was driving by and I wasn't watching the road. The cop was part of a DUI enforcement effort and he said that I was driving erratically. Well I wasn't drinking and he sent me on my way with a warning to be careful.
