Weather Channel crew arrested for trespassing

#1 Postby alicia-w » Sat Apr 15, 2006 12:30 pm

Three members of a video team for The Weather Channel have been charged with trespassing for allegedly refusing to leave the property of a Warren County, Tennessee, woman who was killed by a tornado.

Edward John Lazano Jr., Bradley Reynolds and Jorma Brandon Duran were freed on $500 bail each after their arrests Wednesday, The Southern Standard reported. Calls seeking comment Saturday from the Warren County sheriff's office were not immediately returned.

They allegedly were videotaping on the property of Sherry Bruce, who was killed when storms struck the area on April 7.

"There are eight no trespassing signs posted on the property," Bruce's brother-in-law, Lynn Boren, wrote in warrants filed against the video team. "They were asked at least six times over 30 minutes to leave."

Sheriff Jackie Matheny denied reports that he gave them permission to be on the property.

"If they say they were given permission by me, they are telling a big one. Plus I'd have no authority to tell them that since it's private property," Matheny said.

There was no response to calls seeking comment Friday from Weather Channel spokeswoman Kathleen Lane.

"While we cannot comment on legal proceedings, we are upset and saddened this family suffered the loss of one of its members," she told the Southern Standard on Thursday.

Sometimes using good judgement should prevail. In this case, they stepped over the line and IMO should have been arrested! What a shame!

Individuals and organizations can become overly agressive in their reporting. It's especially touchy at the scene of disasters. We don't know if the individuals were acting on their own or under directions.

We're not going to let this turn into a bash fest on TWC.

At my work, two surveyors were recently cited for tresspassing as a result of a disputed property line.

This sounds too close to what the National Enquirer so called reporters would do, just to get pics or a story.

That's it - TWC I used to trust and admire - is no more.

RIP TWC.

TWC defintely isn't what it used to be. 8-10 years ago they were all I watched when I was not in school, now, I barely watch them(usually only for a minute or two at the time during times of major weather events, when they are not running some taped junk. ).

The only time I used to watch them was on severe weather outbreaks and Tropical Outlooks. I don't watch them for severe weather outbreaks cause thier coverage sucks, it is so media report driven. If they would spend thier time warning people of bad weather like they used to I might watch but, I can not stand it when they have storm stories during an episode of bad weather, instead of warning people of impending danger.

(My opinion)
I do not watch many of the storm stories much either, however I do watch TWC a lot. Just not during their episodes which only happens in the evening. However I dont think the whole TWC should be blame for the people whom have been trespassing, It was not the twc call it was there's.

Another thing, I dont think they show storm stories just to show people suffering though it does seem that way at times. "some" stories were told so that people won't make the same mistake as they did. example: I didn't know that being under a bridge was dangerous during a tornado untill I saw storm stories, now I know not to ever make that move "if" it ever happens to me.

So I don't think the whole TWC should be put to balme, and I only see that these episodes come on during evenings, Though I agree that they went overboard with Stromstories, Full Force Nature, and It could Happen tomorrow, on back to back episodes on Sunday. I am going to post to them about our complaints and "mabey they will put some thought about it"

they keep requesting people to tune in during severe wx outbreaks.... yet the prime time they are playing storm stories/full force nature/it could happen tomorrow....

that's a double standard!

Good point, pojo. It gets annoying and it is annoying! I don't expect them to change, though. It's all about money and fluff.

Ok, enough about twc. This topic on how you don't like twc has been hashed and rehashed so many times. It's redundant. Please keep the comments about twc on just alicia's post.
