Packaging

#1 Postby Janice » Fri Apr 28, 2006 11:11 am

When you buy something at the store, how much do you think you paid for the packaging? John brought home some jello from the deli and 8 of them were individually packaged each in little see thru plastic cups with lids. I wonder how much I am actually paying for the jello. Same with meats and eggs. We might be shocked.

I think that you're on to something, Janice. Those 8-packs probably have 10 cents worth of jello in them. And you pay what - $1.50? $2.25? for it. Not only are you paying for the packaging, but you're paying for the filling process, the portion control, the quality assurance, the handling, the inventory of materials, and all that added complication. And we call it convenience!

Yes, I am stupid, but we all learn the hard way. I will go back to jello and pudding in the boxes like our moms used and probably save more than half. Graci

Sorry if I came across too strong. There are times when the convenience is important, like for packing lunches. But for use at home, it's a waste.

No, you are right. What brought this up for me is that John went to Sams Club last night and I filled a whole trash bag just with boxes, bags and wrapping. I was wondering how much money I just thru away.....
