American Floyd Landis Wins Tour de France

#1 Postby Regit » Sat Jul 22, 2006 12:54 pm

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA - In a blur of green and yellow, Lancaster County native Floyd Landis raced across the finish line and into the history books today, winning the prestigious Tour de France bicycle race.

Landis’ decisive performance in today’s 35.4-mile individual time trial — 1 minute and 29 seconds ahead of former race leader Oscar Pereiro of Spain — leaves little doubt that he will be standing atop the podium in Paris after Sunday’s largely ceremonial procession into the city.

“It was a long way, but I’m happy it’s over,” Landis said at today’s finish line.

“I told everyone in January that we were going to do it. There were times when it looked a little less likely but I kept believing.

True, he won't get his official title until tomorrow, but the Saturday race is the one that decides the winner.

Yeah, but tomorrow's stage is a formality.

Even if one of the other leaders had the bad manners to attempt a breakaway, there's no way they succeed.

It is odd they let him get away so much the other day instead of chasing and then all said it wasn't their job to chase him down.

Oh did anyone else see Ullrich got fired as well?

He should win it, he just has to keep insight of the guys close to him in the standings. By no means a formality......it is still a race.
