Elderly woman imprisoned/robbed*edit*couple in custody

#1 Postby Miss Mary » Sun Jul 23, 2006 8:06 am

A very sad story indeed. Please click on links, to see a picture of this couple: Gordon Powell, 41, and Brandee Powell, 38. They're on the run now. I just hope they are caught and receive just punishment for what they did to this poor elderly woman. I wanted to post these articles, on the chance anyone sees them. Thanks for reading. Thank goodness the woman is being well cared for now.

I don't understand how people could do this to someone or something so helpless. :x

She must not have had family. Which is very sad. My mom keeps saying the bogus lottery drawing winnings, she claims she won. She keeps assurring me she just wants to show how many come in the mail and I keep saying - throw them away, immediately!

There is a lucrative business out there, that preys upon the elderly. We will be there someday too. The whole thing makes my blood boil!

This couple had 2 children also. So either these kids knew the woman wasn't their aunt or they were told she was their aunt. The kids are probably on the run too and victims, for having such terrible parents.

Very tragic story. I think they'll be caught unless they took cash. They'll be traced somewhere.

Wouldnt be surprised if they fled to Canada since it isnt TOO far and the border is still a sieve. Wherever they are at im confident they will be caught soon. And when they are they should get life. Hopefully this poor womans assets..at least most of them, can be recovered.

How sad. :( My grandma suffered from dementia years before her death which was just a week ago. I can see how easy it would be to munipulate someone in that state and it really angers me. :x I hope they are caught and get what the derserve.

Update - the couple on the run have turned themselves in. They are each being held on $100,000 bonds. New article:

At least they did turn themselves in - they probably assumed it was only a matter of time before they were caught.

Or they were broke after spending that poor womans money. They should make both of them work 2 jobs for the rest of their lives..and live on the street eating soup...and re pay this woman. I know it will never happen though.

In 25 or so years this couple will be seniors themselves. Just wait until the shoe is on the other foot (that is if they serve less than 20 years each).

I honestly don't understand how they could sleep at night, knowing the poor woman was confined to their basement and not cared for well.

Hopefully their home, car and purchases can be resold, with whatever money leftover going to this woman's ongoing care. It won't be the same amount. The whole story breaks my heart. When I see this man's smiling face in the photos (must be his driver's license photo), you just want to smack him.

The real credit here goes to suspicious neighbors. Sometimes it pays to have a nosey neighbor. Thank God they realized something wasn't right.

Or for that matter, hit him where it hurts the most.
