Boy Shot In Head During Road-Rage Incident

POSTED: 10:29 am EDT July 28, 2006

GASTON, N.C. -- A 12-year-old boy was shot in the head during a road-rage incident in Northampton County Thursday night, authorities said.

The incident began while two vehicles -- a car carrying a family and a truck driven by a man -- were traveling on North Carolina State Highway 46, the Northampton Sheriff's Department said.

The drivers of both vehicles stopped on the side of the road west of Gaston and the male drivers got out of their vehicles and exchanged words.

The mother and son in the car also got out of their car to calm down the situation, authorities said.

The driver of the truck then retrieved a shotgun from his truck and shot the boy in the head, authorities said.

The boy was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Authorities are now searching for the driver of a gray Ford pickup.

****

Prayers and thoughts that the boy will pull through.

Hope they catch the pickup driver...the a-hole!! :grrr:

I hate road rage incidents...period. Road rage is just an event where a few grown-up drivers act like little kids, and things get downright ugly.

I'm with you, Michael!

I also loathe "speed demons"...plenty of them in Raleigh for sure for ie!

Had a pickup driver on my "tail" like a diaper yesterday while I was driving home with my Mom from the market.

And that was on a 35 mph stretch in my neighborhood community!

Earlier this week in a small Texas town, a crazed driver was cutting off a fire truck, and got all in the fire mens' face for having their lights and sirens on. Well, DUH!!! It's an emergency! Police have a warrant for his arrest at this moment.

Ah, I hate road rage and speed demons. Yes, I've seen my fair share of crazy cars cutting across all lanes in a 5-lane freeway, driving at 90 mph. And not just in the U.S.!

The boy has died.

A murder warrant has been issued for the motorist who shot him as he is still at large.

The father was stupid to pull over with a wife and son in the car with him. Hope they catch the bastard.

Perhaps the father was hoping/thinking that the disgruntled *whatever* would have gone past his car after he pulled over.

My thoughts and prayers with the family who lost their son.

No because he got out of the car to confront the man, I would have called the state police before I ever pulled over.

It wouldn't have made any difference, the disgruntled motorist was willing to shoot anyone that gets in his way.

Hope they catch him, and throw him in the cell for life without parole.

The family may not have had a cell with them and no place close by to stop and make a call. I mean glaring headlights right up behind you...the family must have been terrified...and then even more so seeing their son get shot!

I don't blame the family at all! (the boy was the same age that my niece is)

It's those a-holes who *think* they OWN the road!! :grrr: :grrr:

GASTON, N.C. -- A man wanted in connection with an alleged fatal road-rage incident that killed an 11-year-old boy was taken into custody Sunday.

The boy died after being shot in the head in Northampton County Thursday night, authorities said.

The incident began while two vehicles -- a car carrying a family and a truck driven by a man -- were traveling on N.C. Highway 46, the Northampton Sheriff's Department said.

Robert Lee Vincent Sr., 65, of Gin Loop Road, Garysburg, was arrested on a charge of murder.

The drivers of both vehicles stopped on the side of the road west of Gaston and the male drivers got out of their vehicles and exchanged words.

The mother and son in the car also got out of their car to calm down the situation, authorities said.

Vincent then retrieved a shotgun from his truck and shot the boy in the head, authorities said.

The boy was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital but later died.

I have one question. What was he doing with a loaded shotgun in the car? Its not hunting season. Sounds wacky.

My mother talked to my sister this afternoon on the phone (she lives one county south of Northampton Co NC where this tragedy took place) and after reading the local paper (which I also take by mail delivery)...she said the article reported that the gunman Robert Vincent is related to the family and apparently the father who was just trying to help Vincent in mentioning that the pickup truck that Vincent was driving had a malfunctioned turn signal...something like that if I heard my Mom correctly. Anyway apparently the suspect has a history of being a kind of person who has an attitude of "DON'T YOU be telling me what is wrong with my vehicle!" started fighting with the father of this family and then the son tried to intervene to try and calm/diffuse the situation and then at that moment Vincent was aiming to kill the boy's father but instead shot the boy! :grr:

So now Vincent has shattered the lives of some relatives of his and screwed UP his own life!

So they were related, no wonder the father pulled over, I take back all I said earlier.
