MOSI has a new exhibit opening in Tampa on weather. Features Disasterville, interactive simulations, 80 mph wind tunnel for an individual. Hurricanes, Tornados, Wildfires and Earthquake exhibits.

And then stop off at the Dali museum nearby. I hope that is a travelling exhibit and it makes it to West Palm. Sounds great.

I went yesterday and I wanted to issue my review.

Main Disasterville Simulations: CHEESY!! There are 4 simulated houses (tornado, hurricanes, fire, and earthquakes). Fire was the best, but the story was bad. The trees in the mountains light up, and the fire moves in. Then a wagon blows up right outside, but the house remains unburned until everything around the house is burnt to the ground (not possible). Then they use projectors to make it red and orange inside and then some smoke. It never got hot. Overall all 4 were lame.

Secondary Disasterville Simulations. These were neat. I went in the 80mph wind tunnel. My hair was being blown straight down, and it was stinging like crazy! They had a lightning ball in which you put your arm in a metal sleeve and the ball zapped you, which was cool. They had a few small Tsunami simulators, but they were too small to be good.

Overall, I think they didn't ask any experts before designing these exhibits A lot of them were too small to be exciting.

They also have the news station in there, which was poor. They use touchscreens to do a weather report, but you almost had to hit the touch screen with a hammer to get it to work. You also could not report from the desk and the green screen at the same time, which was disappointing, especially with a group of 40.

Overall, MOSI isn't what it used to be. A lot of cheese with this visit. Get rid of 'Amazing You' and possibly disasterville, and bring in better exhibits please.

I remember when it opened back in the 80's. They had a hurricane exhibit where it was a wind tunnel -- you wore goggles and foam "debris" flew around. I'm glad to here it is still open.

They have numerous hurricane related exhibits. The old hurricane wind tunnel is there, the one you have to wear goggles for. No projectiles though. They have a new wind tunnel that you stand in that goes up to 80mph. And they have a simulator that is one of the four that I talked about above, that sucked. Basically you walk into the house and watch a screen that repeats itself and you get 40mph winds from one side. Nothing to exciting. Should have had water and a lot more wind.
