WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government has misplaced the original recording of the first moon landing, including astronaut Neil Armstrong's famous "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," a NASA spokesman said on Monday.

Armstrong's famous space walk, seen by millions of viewers on July 20, 1969, is among transmissions that NASA has failed to turn up in a year of searching, spokesman Grey Hautaloma said.

Well there has always been the controversy that trip to the moon never happened. And this will just give these people more to add to the huge list of 'why it never happened'. Actually its kinda of making me wonder now. How do you loose such an important piece of footage? I don't get it. Unless it was stolen, but seems like it should be in a place that would never happen and thus you would know where it is.

Wasn't this news from last week or more? I find it odd that this happened myself.

What exactly would they need it for besides 'history'?

I never believed this happened, we covered this in American History class. It was too convincing for me to believe.

Ah well...at least there's evidence of the mission at the Neil Armstrong Museum in Wapakoneta, OH. :D I can vouch firsthand as I went to the museum one time on a trip with my church youth group. :)

they also are still conducting laser experiments that were set up on the moon during the missions in the 70s. I saw a thing about this on the National Geographic channel.
