Favorite Skyscrapers

So what are your favorite skyscrapers?

My favorite would be the Dallas Reunion Tower (The light-up Ball).

We only have one in Galveston and it's not that big of a thrill. Downtown Lexington never had much either. In the birthplace, the St. Louis Arch scrapes the sky (does that count?). And then again, so does Lady Liberty's torch, so that would be my vote.

Then again, there are those two beautiful towers, once thought to be such an eyesore to many New Yorkers....

Hmm, we don't have any skyscrapers in the Netherlands...

But there's some nice highrise, like this one from Rotterdam (one of my favourites)

Anyway, my favourite 'skyscraper' from my hometown is without a doubt the following. 112 meters high and finished in 1382.

And in the future, this one might become my new favourite. 262 meters high and about to be built in a huge new suburb (100.000 houses) of my city.

I remember Duckie when the Twin Towers opened in 1976 and the hub-bub about them - alot of negative. They were beauties to behold though. :wink:

I can't say I have a favorite "tower". They are all magnificent works of art in my opinion.

Is the second tower a church, Yarrah? It's incredible how old she is. That last one is going to be unbelievable to look at in person.

I get dizzy just thinking about their heights and the people working to build them! :eek:

Yes, It's part of a huge cathedral situated behind it. Unfortunatly, a large part of the cathedral was destroyed during a violent storm in 1674, so only the back part of the cathedral and tower are still standing.
Climbing up to the highest point of the tower is a bit tiresome, but the view is really worth it; you can see Amsterdam for example and it's really romantic to be up there after sunset because you can then see the medieval centre by night with all the lights and canals.

CN Tower in Toronto's pretty cool. I liked the Glass Floor, coolest experience ever.

It has to be PPG Place in Pittsburgh. Its walls are like a reflective glass curtain from which all of the other wonderful buildings in downtown Pittsburgh can be seen. It consists of a 40 story tower, one 12 story building and 4 five story buildings. It's located on 5.5 acres in the heart of downtown.
