It used to be my favorite MEAL when I was stationed in Alaska some 25 years ago, I couldn't bring myself to shooting one now even if I was starving!

How do they taste? Why would you not want to shoot a ptarmigan?

They taste like chicken :lol: Seriously though, they taste a lot like wild turkey...kinda gamey tasting but not too bad either! I would compare the taste to Ruffed Blue Grouse....sweet meat!

I don't know, the older I get the harder it is to shoot something so pretty!

That's what I figured. I hear ptarmigans are one of the finest game meats. I take you think ptarmigans are beautiful birds. Most people cite ptarmigan turning white in the winter for being beautiful. I like their cute feathery feet. Ptarmigan is a cute bird. What always baffles me, is why few people know about he ptarmigan. I am sure most have heard of ptarmigans, likely from nature shows and books.
