R.I.P. Beryl Marton

#1 Postby conestogo_flood » Mon Sep 04, 2006 12:10 am

I just got horrible news around 430pm, then again at 9pm. My Grandma Beryl Marton, mother of my mom, only 66 years old is on her death bed tonight. She is at Columbia Forest Nursing Home with Alzheimers, MS, Insomnia, Pneumonia, Heart Disease, and multiple alzers. Please pray for her, she only has about 24 hours to live. My parents were in Erie, Pennsylvania, they called at 10pm saying they are on their way home. Just please, pray for her. My whole family from around here is over or on their way, family from Kalamazoo, Michigan are on their way too. I just feel so bad. Just please pray for her to make it, please. She hasn't had much of a life since she turned about 50, her husband killed himself in 1987, before I was born. I have not experienced a family death, and this is extremely hard. Pray for her, and pray for my family please.

I'm saying some prayers for them and you and especially her right now before i go to bed.

I have only one grandmother left, i've lost about 10 family members in the past 10 years, including a cousin of mine at the age of 21 he was gunned down in miami. I really feel for you.

The best thing i can say is for you to remember the good times, to cry a lot, and talk a LOT with your family. Express yourself and your feelings. It really pays off in the end, and makes you feel much better and happier.

I'm sorry to hear :(

Thanks everyone.

My parents got home at 2am, we went to the home at 4am and left at 7am, we haven't got much sleep, my parents are back up there with some family. Her brother is on his way over from England right now, his flight took off at I think 730am EDT, so he should be here by tonight. It was just so sad, she is still with it, but in so much pain. I couldn't even stand in the room, she was moaning, and trying to talk and looking at us. She is fired with morphine, so I hope she can go in peace, our pastor is on his way over right now too.

Having lost my Dad back in Febuary of this year, I know what you are going through, like everyone else has said, it is ONE of the HARDEST things we all must face in life is loosing a loved one, especially a family member but rest assured, when the Lord takes her home she will never again feel pain...you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers and may the Heavenly Father ease your pain of loosing such a wonderful woman.

Blessings and strength to you and your family. Know that your willingness and courage to be physically present for your Grandmother and family is a tremendous gift for them. I recently dropped everything and went to the ICU to sit with a friend whose mother had unexpected complications during a routine cardiac cath procedure. It meant a lot to her to simply have me present with her in the hospital while they sat and waited.

Consider this: the roots of the word compassion amount to WITH-PASSION. When we take the time to be with and share in the passion of another, we demonstrate the heart of compassion. Please know we are all WITH you in this difficult time of loss and sorrow.

What is kind of re-assuring to us, is in the past few months, even though she can no longer walk, she attended the nursing home chapel every now and then on Sunday mornings. She hasn't gone to church before, except for a few Christmas services.

My cousin is on her way over to pick my brother and I up, we are going up there. From what I've heard there is a lot of people up there, her best friend that lived with her during World War 2 is on her way down from Penetanguishene, Ontario. They have some wild stories of the Blitz and other bombings in London. She had a fairly good life leading up to about 50, but MS just took over then. She's spent the past 15 years living with my aunt in Mount Forest, she never left the house after she went into a wheelchair. Just, I know that it will be hard to loose her, but really it'll be for the better, she will no longer be in pain, she will be "free" essentially I guess. It's a harsh thing to say, but as my Grandma Chambers said, there is just a point in life where it becomes hardly worth living anymore, and she has been at that stage for about a year probably, because she just stopped eating, smoking(and she has been smoking since she was 12), watching TV. She just sat alone in her room, and I always felt bad about it. We included her as much as possible, she'd come over every weekend for supper, she was only allowed out for 4 hours because of her alzhers, but she still really enjoyed herself.

Anyways, thanks for the prayers, time is going by really slow right now for me, and probably the rest of my family. I sat on the porch from about 11am to 315pm, with the radio on the oldies station, and my friend Ruth stopped by to keep me company. But, thanks guys you are really like my extended family.

Update, in the past few hours she has gone way downhill. We are all thinking tonight is the night. Everyone said their goodbyes to her this afternoon. She is completely out of it now. I really would rather her go tonight, because all they can do now is give her shots of morphine, nothing else can be done.
