"Hunting for Bambi"

#1 Postby j » Thu Jul 17, 2003 10:32 am

Now if this doesn't take the cake...read on:

It's a new form of adult entertainment, and men are paying thousands of dollars to shoot naked women with paint ball guns. They're coming to Las Vegas to do it. This bizarre new sport has captured the attention of people around the world, but Channel 8 Eyewitness News reporter LuAnne Sorrell is the only person who has interviewed the game's founder.

George Evanthes has never been hunting. "Originally I'm from New York. What am I going to hunt? Squirrels? Someone's cats? Someone's dogs? I don't think so," said Evanthes. Now that he's living in Las Vegas, he's finally getting his chance to put on his camouflage, grab a rifle and pull the trigger. But what's in his scope may surprise you. He's not hunting ducks or deer, he's hunting naked woman.

"I've done this three times," says Nicole, one of the three women allowing themselves to be shot at. Two other women, Gidget and Skyler, claim they have done this seven times.

Hunting for Bambi is the brainchild of Michael Burdick. Men pay anywhere from $5000 to $10,000 for the chance to come to the middle of the desert to shoot what they call "Bambis" with a paint ball gun. Burdick says men have come from as far away as Germany. The men get a video tape of their hunt to take home and show their friends.

Burdick says safety is a concern, but the women are not allowed to wear protective gear -- only tennis shoes.

Burdick says hunters are told not to shoot the women above the chest, but he admits not all hunters follow the rules. "The main goal is to be as true to nature as possible. I don't go deer hunting and see a deer with a football helmet on so I don't want to see one on my girl either," said Burdick.

The paint balls that come out of the guns travel at about 200 miles-per-hour. Getting hit with one stings with clothes on, and when they hit bare flesh, they are powerful enough to draw blood.

Evanthes shot one of the women and says, "I got the one with the biggest rack."

Gidget is the one who took the paint ball shot to the rear. She says, "It hurt. It really hurt. I didn't think it was going to be that bad." When asked if she cried she says, "Yeah, a little bit."

So why do women agree to strip down and run around the desert dodging paint balls? Nicole says it's good money. "I mean it's $2,500 if you don't get hit. You try desperately not to and it's $1,000 if you do," said Nicole.

The men and women say this is all good, clean fun, but reporter LuAnne Sorrell spoke with a psychologist who says for some men playing out this sexual aggression may lead to other more violent acts against women.

Michael Burdick, the founder of HuntingForBambie.com, explains the game to three women early one Monday morning. "You have to collect four flags throughout the course. Some are easy for you and some are not easy," said Burdick.

The woman begin stripping down to their tennis shoes and start running to dodge the paint balls that go buzzing by.

"We got a hit," said George Evanthes, who just shot and hit one of the women in the behind. "It was sexy. Let's put it that way," said Evanthes.

The women who take part in this bizarre game get paid $2,500 if they escape unscathed. Even if a paintball hits them, they walk away with $1,000.

"As you can see this is not lethal, and it wasn't meant to hurt anybody. Just good clean fun," said Evanthes.

Burdick says the majority of the men who pay the $5000 to $10,000 to play the game are the submissive, quite type. "For the individual who's used to saying 'I can't go out with the boys tonight' or the wimp of America, it's a chance for him to come out and vent his aggression and really take charge and have some fun."

Marv Glovinsky is a clinical psychologist. He says this so called game mixes violence with sexuality and can be dangerous for men who can not distinguish fantasy from reality, and acting out the violence in this game could lead to them acting out real violence.

"If you're blurring reality and fantasy and you can't make the distinction and you're emotions over power your intellect or your higher mental function, your going to get into trouble, and if you have a control problem to boot, that's really going to cause problems." Problems, he adds, like beating, raping or even hunting women with a real gun.

Hunter Evanthes disagrees, "This is just a game. Get serious, get real." But some worry it's a game, which may have consequences that go far beyond the playing field.

Well, I for one, am glad it's humans and not animals. I was reluctant to read this thread for fear it was another - let's exploit animals for our enjoyment - case. So glad it's just a bunch of silly women, very willing to exploit themselves, and not the other way around. I know, I have wacky ideas of late when it comes to animals. If these women want to be THIS stupid, then I guess I don't have an opinion. It is voluntary and nothing much surprises me anymore. This world we live in is so crazy at times. You just read the next outrageous story and sometimes you don't even shake your head anymore. I usually just let out a big sigh though.

Wouldn't want my daughters doing this though - very different story. It would be interesting to see if these women do it more than once. Apparently it's not painless, if you read the article.

The originator has modified things slightly for the protection of the "Bambi's"....he now allows them to wear protective goggles along with their sneakers. However, this is upsetting to some of the "purists" who want their prey like nature intended.

Mary...like you said..what can we expect from a world that says its ok to do anything....marry a man, get molested by your Priest, while the local Cardinal cover's it up...you name it....its' ok!

j - well it sure isn't Mayberry anymore, that's for darn sure! Although for just one day, it would be nice to live that slow pace, sit on Andy's porch and try to eat a jar of Aunt Bea's pickles. LOL

I just try my best to raise decent kids and teach them to treat others fairly. So far, knock on wood, it's working. I can't change the world, so I try to just accept all this craziness. Do I agree with it all - nope. I don't quite share all your views j but can see where you're coming from.

You know...paintball is one thing. Men seek to regain some of their youth. They go into the woods and hunt each other down. Some come home bruised up, some come home victorious. I can see the pleasure in a primatical sort of way. It's a guy thing. If they come home with testosterone oozing from every pore of their bodies, then it's a good thing.

Hunting down naked women is another. I can understand to a point the fun of hunting down a naked woman. If I was a guy I might enjoy it. Maybe. I draw the line at shooting at them. It obviously inflicts pain. Why any woman would subject themselves to it is one thing. I guess some would subject themselves to abuse in this manner if the money was good. Heck, too many women subject themselves to abuse every day of their lives for free.

I'm not a feminist by any means, but I do find this degrading. It's borderline sick in my opinion but to each his own I suppose.

I think its sick too..but that's the way things are these days. We say it's ok for all kinds of other sick behavior....why should this be any diffent.

I for one would never consider participating, unless of course it was cheaper, and we used a different kind of ammo...like perhaps water balloons. Then it becomes fun, an adult consentual type activity...nobody is hurt..the only issue is female degradation and if they are willing participants then I would see no harm. But in all fairness, I think it should work both ways. Have a "Hunting for Men", with naked guys running around being hunted by woman. The only problem with that would be finding a man that would try not to get captured.

btw....this is reportedly the hottest Internet topic of the week. If your wondering why the Internet is slow..........

I heard this on Leno a couple nights in a row now. But, there are qualifications... you cannot hit above the next or below the knees. "There's were also Clinton's guidelines" (Leno joke).

It is sick...there was a story on the noon news about it today.

I wouldn't do it if they paid me. I'm the brother to a little sis that was abused....by a psychotic on a power trip who relished in hearing her scream in pain and cry....Kevin would have loved "Hunt Bambi:...those guys doing it are just like him: sadistic :grrr: :grrr:

Perry...that is awful about your sister...but with all due respect..these woman. like prostitutes, call girls, "escorts", have chosen to do this for the money. I have a hard time sympathizing their position. There are other ways to make a living and NOT get abused or degraded.

Oh, I realize these young women are choosing to be human targets of their own free will (unless they are forced by their pimp...which is a sick but sadistic fact of life for some prostitutes)...

My point is...ANYTHING that feeds a sadist's power craving for abusing women...can be potentially dangerous. What's even more alarming...what about the guys who love to abuse girls and young women but can't afford thousands of dollars to feed their need?

This type of "entertainment" sanitizes abuse of women....makes a twisted mind say "it's okay if I kidnap an 11th grader and torture her. They do it to girls in Las Vegas for entertainment...so it's okay for me to do it in Atlanta (or Portland)".

I'm not trying to pick a fight. In all honesty, these rich guys on a power trip aren't the ones that really scare me for my baby sister and niece's safety -- it's the "not so rich" dudes with the same sadistic craving that can't afford to "hunt Bambi" -- it gives them ideas...about "hunting my Beth or Madison" :(

Thanks j! :)

I'm so glad my sister got away from him too Lindaloo. It's been 19 years since their divorce, and she's still afraid of him. I didn't know about much of the abuse until 1995...over 11 years later. Becky didn't tell me...she didn't want to visit me on death row :grrr:
