Wanting to talk a little

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Wed Oct 18, 2006 7:29 pm

Hey guys.. I need to talk a little.. I'm kinda scared but more likely confused.. lol..

As you may recall, took my Sat's. Tomorrow.. I am going back to my old HS to get a copy of my transcripts and send my paper work to University of South Fla where I wanna go to school..

Here's the troubling part.. This is like my "dream school" because I love that area. But.. There's parts of me and outsiders tearing me in both directions trying to pull me each way.. {Go/don't go if I get accepted}

I wanna go.. But in a way I don't wanna go.. I'm scared.. I'm confused.. I feel like no matter what I decide.. I'm gonna disappoint someone.. My mom's already told me.. "If ya go.. and don't like it.. u made that bed.. now lay in it.."..

But going to USF for my journalism degree would be like a dream. I have people at my church teasing me telling me they'll pray I get rejected or they'll pray my Sat scores were low.. lol. {I'm sure they don't mean it as malicious as it seems}

I'm just undecisive and undecided.. I like this area, like my Wal Mart {as much as I feel like walking out sometimes lol} like my church.. But I also like Tampa Bay's area.. USF and the priviledge of getting my degree and going to the beach perhaps on my days off lol..

Decisions decisions..

The worst thing that can happen is you go, don't succeed and continue what you were doing before you decided to go to college. Don't be afraid to take risks. Also have you considered attending Valencia Community College? There are something like 40,000 students if my memory is correct, and you wouldn't have any problem getting in since you've got a high school degree. It would be a way to stay where you are, get used to the college environment, and explore journalism as a major before declaring it to be your major. Most people have changes in heart somewhere along the way.

I cannot recommend community college too highly. If you have any questions post them here or give me a PM. I'm currently studying at UF.

You have to take risks in order to succeed and grow. You have a dream and in order to make it a reality you have to step out of what is familiar and comfortable and try it. It certainly is scary when you make a big decision like this, but it can be very exciting as well. Everyone goes through that when they start a new job, get married, have their first child, etc.

Go for it and don't look back. The confidence you'll gain from even making the attempt will be immeasurable. :wink:

I don't understand those that teased you in church. Certainly they know how sensitive you are and how much this will mean to you.

As my dad has told me time and again... he always told me this..and its short and applies to everything in your life...

*DON'T DIE WONDERING*

I know its so easy to worry about making the wrong decisions. The potential is there to either make a mistake..or on the opposite end of the scale...to do wonderfully brilliant and succeed. It is easier to be comfortable and settled down. Just always make sure each and every decision you make for the future is not something you make out of fear. Everything changes, everybody changes (as my favorite song by the great band KEANE says) If it excites you..go for it. If you don't try though, you won't know what you are missing...so you will always wonder what if.

Its a great motto to live by. Ultimately though, it is your decision John, but you don't have to make any decision overnight. Take your time, think it through. I know with your family's support, your friends, and nice people on STORM2K you will make only good decisions.

That's odd, it shouldn't have seemed that way. Good luck at USF!

These feelings are very common and normal for someone doing the application process...

As someone who did quite the opposite of my parents' advice - TWICE - and got the very same "make your own bed" line from my mother, here is my advice:

Follow your dreams and don't look back.

Do what YOU feel is the right thing to do.

It paid off for me, and now my parents couldn't be more proud.
