Federal Income Taxes?

#1 Postby SouthFloridawx » Tue Oct 24, 2006 11:16 pm

I am trying to looking for the the Law in the Constitution that requires me to pay Federal Income Taxes and file a Federal Income Tax Form every year. I am a regular wage earner. I read something somewhere that there is no law that states we have to pay federal income taxes on wages/labor, only Corporations are supposed to pay taxes on Profits or gains?

Can anyone find the law that states we have to pay federal income taxes?

I am afraid you do. Plenty of people have challenged it in the past. Libertarians mostly. And I consider myself a libertarian so take it to heart when I say that it cannot be effectively challenged. Most of the schemes are absurd.

Oh and I am not a lawyer. At all.

I say pick a fight that you have a chance of winning. Compared to taxation that was imposed by various and sundry emporers and oppressers throughout history, the 25% or so that we pay in total tax burden is a pretty good deal for the services that are provided plus all the hand outs that are given. Also the level of graft and corruption, as bad as it seems, is nothing compared to what history shows.

Consider old India, they were taxed literally to starvation by the various muslim, british, and homegrown rulers throughout their history. At some times they paid 50% -75% of their crops, and that got them the priveledge of being beaten or killed if they caused trouble. Americans are a bunch of crybabies.

As always, hard work, frugalness, good planning, and a little luck go a long way towards making our life comforatable.

Revolutionaries are ususally the same kind of people as those that they seek to overthrow. The radicals of one age are the reactionaries of the next. Go have a beer and relax.

Unfortunately the 16th Amendment clearly gives congress the authority to institute taxes on income, regardless of the source or recipient of the income. Don't let anyone fool youy into thinking you don't have to pay. You could end up doin gprison time over it.

Read the 16th Amendment here.

Amendment XVI

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Are you talking about personal 1040? If so, then yes you have to file taxes. You can get by 3 years without filing but after that, the IRS will be knocking on your door threatening to levy and seize your assets.

If you are self employed you also have to pay federal taxes quarterly and wages/payroll quarterly, regardless. If you do not have a FEIN (federal employee identification number) then you will need to file a schedule C with your personal taxes.

If you get paid cash you have to make so much per year to have to file a 1099.
