That's a southern accent you've got there. You may love it, you may hate it, you may swear you don't have it, but whatever the case, we can hear it.

I knew I had it. lol.

It says midland accent which is no accent but the graph shows strong accent of the south and then Pennsylvania. I was born in Florida with Crackers on my paternal side and Cuban and Italian on my maternal side. Throw in five years in Birmingham Alabama which definitely altered my speech pattern a little. I say icebox not refrigerator and spigot instead of faucet and other little gems. My mother cringes when I say icebox, but I tell her don't blame me for my speech pattern.

It claims I have a Boston accent. Guess that's a testament to how strong childhood influece is - I was born on Cape Cod, but I've lived almost all my life here in Miami.

What happens if you're not from the U.S.? LOL :ggreen:

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent."

Good, because I'm not American

The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unles you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

This surprised me. I'd a thunk i'd be more like a southerner. Guess this is what having yankee parents will do to ya!

Told me Inland North. I've had someone in England pinpoint what state I'm from, so I'm doubting Inland North.

NAILED MINE! :D

Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

I'm not from either Wisconsin or Chicago, but I am close, how about Michigan!

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Northeast

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

They were right!!

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

lol! I'm from a little town in Mississippi. Weird!

Apparently, I'm fron the north east...which is strange considering I'm British!

Kind of makes sense though...as thats where the British first landed!

I know I shouldn't have really taken the test...just interested to see what it would say for a foriegner!

i'm the first person to respond with this:
Your Result: North Central

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.

I've never touched a strip of soil above ~38 N (except those two weeks I was in Canada). WAY wrong.
