Today is the 26th anniversary of John Lennon's death.

What John Lennon means to me? About a year ago, John Lennon was just another name in music to me, but through a friend, I decided to do a little investigation. He was truely an amazing person, and has taught me how to deal with his music and views. I wish he were still alive today, I would have love to have been from The Beatles generation. I made a tshirt today that I am going to wear all day tomorrow(over my coat) to remembering him.

Is anyone going to Strawberry Fields tomorrow? Also, where were you when John Lennon was shot?

I was still young (12)...and a little on the clueless side. I went to school the morning after the news broke and said something to a classmate to the effect of "Wow, I guess everyone's pretty sad about John Lindgren's murder." My classmate was like, "Duh...no, John Lennon...the Beatle. Not John Lindgren." At the time, John Lindgren was a news anchor in Lexington, who has since died of cancer.

I haven't seen one thing today about the anniversary, has everyone moved on? I hope not.

Has everyone moved on? No way. I still say that this was the saddest day in Rock n Roll. Without a doubt. John Lennon was ripped from us, just wrenched from us and from a so called fan. People argue with me and ask, what about Elvis? I agree his death was very sad but his lifestyle (diet, pill popping) was brought on by himself. He didn't have to take pills to sleep, wake up, lose weight, etc. John Lennon was a peaceful man, just minding his own business.

This date will always be sad to me. I cried for days when I heard the news.

My 16 year old daughter is a huge JL fan, as well as the Beatles. She had her iPod engraved with her favorite song's lyrics - Imagine. She calls it "Lenny" - the iPod, I mean. She went off to school wearing a John Lennon shirt. And her Beatles hoodie.

RIP John. He wasn't my favorite Beatle, Paul grabbed that spot, but I was only 9. What did I know. But John was a very close second. More importantly, look at what he preached. We should all listen to Imagine today.

No matter what city noise violations may say, I've already blasted Imagine out the backwindow, high above the neighbourhood, two times today over the loud speakers we own. I will continue thoughout the day.

I remember radio stations playing Beatles music for days back then. Last year marked the 25th Anniversary of his death. I know we had a thread for it. You might want to perform a search. I heard more about John's death and more importantly celebrations of his life, last year. Probably b/c it's the 26th Anniv.

I have every Beatles album and John's solo's as well. I can remember my mother getting very upset with me when she heard "Working Class Hero" for the first time.

I saw a clip on a special about Lennon's death the other day. He was being interviewed by either Mike Douglas or, argh, another guy who I can picture but can't come up with his name. I don't remember which one. Anyway, he was asked about how he thought he would die -- "I'll probably be popped off by some looney." That was wild to hear.

Not the saddest, but one of the saddest days in rock n roll history. I have alot of his son Julian Lennon's music downloaded. He sounds like his Dad and looks like him too. I was hoping Julian would follow in his Dads footsteps, but he had one album and then nothing.

The saddest day was the day the music died.

Linda - we can agree to disagree. The reason I feel that 12.8.80 is the saddest is for all that was lost. And because it was senseless. Yes, much the same way as Buddy Holly's death but for John Lennon, he spoke to entire generation (and he's still speaking to more as they come along).

And a friend of John's mentioned someone pointing at the Dakota, saying, "That's where John Lennon died" and he corrected them, saying, "No, that's where John Lennon lived."

Perhaps that's why you're not hearing a lot about it. Perhaps October 9th is the day to remember John Lennon.
