Static Electricity - OWCH!

I need help! Does anyone have tips on how to decrease static
electricity in the Winter? I am an "electric" person! It seems like
every peice of metal that I touch...car door, doorknob, metal
equipment...makes a *POP*! Owch! Sometimes it's so bad that
the spark arches from me to the metal source! I dread this time
of year because I know that I will be "hit", every time I touch
metal. I'm begging for ways to reduce the pain! If you have any
tips, please share them....*POP!*...."OWCH!"

Bounce fabric softner sheets. Keep one on your body at all times. Rub you hand on it before you go to open your car door. It's supposed to help.

Thanks, Kathy! I use Downy with Febreeze fabric softener, and, Bounce with
Febreeze sheets in the dryer, but, I guess I need to start packing one in my
pocket, eh? I'll tote a fresh one!

Annette - ouch indeed! We have an automatic humidifier added to our furnace. We can instantly tell if it's clogged b/c we all begin to itch like crazy and have static electricity. It's now 17 years old so it gets clogged more than it works right. My dad used to just put out pots of water, especially on top of his floor registers. You could just try that, a simple fix to add more moisture to the air?

As long as you do not have the beehive hairdo then you should be okay.

If you spray a little bit of hairspray on your coat, jacket then you should not have the static problem. I know you are a nurse and probably wear "crocs" or any other type of rubber sole shoes. It is the carpet in the car that causes it because of the shoes. When I wear my Clark Wallabee's or my Crocs to work I always get a shock when I get out of the car and shut the door.

Try spraying the carpet in the car with a little water that has a little bit of downy mixed with it. You do not want to soak the carpet but just mist it. Spray it and let it dry. Should keep the shocking properties of it down to a minimum.

Thanks for the tips, gals! So far, the spraying myself with hairspray tip
has been a great help! Forget my hair (yes, no beehive - just flimsy fine
hair that won't style without it) - I spray my body with it (lightly) and the
POW! POP! thing has been greatly reduced. I almost feel human, again....

Gah, I despise static electricity too...and what doesn't help is my chair having some degree of metal...if I reach for a door it's *zap* "OW!".

Jeremy, if you touch a metal object like a key before reaching for the metal door,it will ground you so the shock will be reduced. Hope this helps.

I only get shocked from my wife's Honda CRV when I get out of it. Its wierd because I don't get shocked from either one of my Toyotas.
