(AP) CUCUMBER, W.Va. -- Two miners were trapped in a roof fall Saturday at a southern West Virginia coal mine, an emergency dispatcher said.
The miners became trapped around 10:30 a.m. at the Brooks Run mine in McDowell County, said Paul Butler, a county 911 dispatcher. He had no other details.
The miners' condition wasn't immediately known. Dispatchers said the accident scene was up to 1 1/2 miles beyond the entrance to the mine.
A year ago, an explosion killed 12 men at the Sago Mine in Upshur County. Also last January, two miners died in a fire at the Aracoma Alma No. 1 Mine in Logan County.
Cucumber is about 90 miles west of Roanoke, Va.
