Albertsons to close 6 D-FW stores

By MARIA HALKIAS / The Dallas Morning News

Albertson's LLC plans to close 11 more unprofitable stores in Texas, including six in the Dallas area, the company said Monday.

Store closures include the chain's kosher-certified store in Richardson at Campbell and Coit roads. It is one of only two supermarkets with a certified pareve bakery, kosher deli and fresh meat market in the Dallas area.

The Albertson's stores – two each in Austin and Amarillo; one each in Allen, Colleyville, Grapevine, Irving, McKinney and Richardson in North Texas; and one in Lubbock – will close by March 11.

My hometown will no longer have an Albertsons store. Oh well, there's always other stores to shop.

We don't have an Albersons here in Lakeland either but we used to. The building it was in is now a Book store and a Gold's gym

The 2nd Albertsons store we had in Irving, TX turned into a Super Saver Food Store. After a year, it's...a sagging building with boarded up windows and doors.

I hate to say it, but I think their "Shop-N-Scan" program led to their downfall.

It's a program where us shoppers get to shop and scan from our cart. It was first introduced to Albertsons in early 2004.

If I am not mistaken Albertson's bought out the Acme markets up here in PA/NJ. They've closed a few Acmes but not very many.
