NEWARK, Ohio (Court TV) — Former Los Angeles Laker Samaki Walker was charged Friday with drunk driving in connection with an accident earlier this month.
Walker, who spent the last two seasons with the Lakers, was driving home when he lost control of his vehicle about 20 miles east of Columbus on July 9, according to police. Walker's vehicle rolled over, partially ejecting him. He was treated and released from a local hospital.
Walker told authorities he had two alcoholic drinks. Authorities are waiting for the results of a blood test.
He also was charged with failure to maintain control of a vehicle and not wearing a seat belt.
Walker is scheduled to be arraigned on July 30.
Walker played three seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, then two seasons with the San Antonio Spurs before joining the Lakers. Last season, Walker averaged 4.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and one assist. Walker is an unrestricted free agent and free to sign with any NBA team.
