2 weeks in NC were great. It was nice to see some cooler weather for a change. We are seriously considering moving back there next summer, after Michael graduates high school. I'm tired of being seperated from family. I miss the get togethers for holidays, cook-outs and just doing stuff together. When we moved down here in 93 it took us 2 days just to make the drive with all our stuff. That was a long trip. We even sold the stuff that we didn't want to take with us. I hate the thought of doing that again. I'll have 3 weeks vacation next summer so I might try to go up to find a place to live before we actually make the trip.

Deb....as a family who moved from 50 years of family, friends, and memories, we do understand the yearning. Kathy is often so in need of her lifelong girlfriends. It is just not the same when she drags me along to the mall to shop. My enthusiasm for that adventure is much less than theirs ever was.
I do believe, however, that the yearning to go home is something more than just the need to go back to a place. It is a yearning to go back to the SAME place you left. That is not likely to happen. People change; they go on about their own lives.
So, in a way, going back, REALLY going back, is not all that possible.
Still...there is something very peaceful about returning to your roots.
Good luck in contemplating that possibility. If you need someone to keep the emotions in check...be happy to try without taking a pro or con position.

Welcome back, Deb. 
It is nice to get home after being among family members. Although you miss them, you have gotten used to where you have been living. I have travelled from Florida to Massachusetts twice, in the last three years since my move.

Thanks guys. I think the need to move really stems from the fact that both of my parents died in the 10
years that I've been living here. It's like I should have stayed so I could have spent more quality time with them. When you're used to always having them around, you take for granted that they'll always be there. My Mom didn't even want me to even move here in the first place. Family meant everything to her. Then almost 2 yrs. later she was dead. I guess I have the need to spend as much time as possible, with the rest of the family while I have them. Thanks for letting me unload.

It was my parents decision to move from winters of snow and sleet of southern New England to "freezing precipitation-less central Florida" in June 2000. We are a very close knit family despite the approximate 1,200 mile distance.
I enjoy it here for the most part, but it would be nice to occasionally (but obviously often enough) seeing immediate an extended family members.

Deb - welcome back. Glad you enjoyed your trip! Having lived in Cincy my entire life, I can only imagine how lonely you feel for your hometown. My sister-in-law lives in Barrington, IL and misses Cincinnati so much, I think it hurts. But they need to remain there because of hubby's job. So from her perspective, I can relate to how you feel. Jan comes down to Cincy, many times thru-out the year. She thinks nothing of the 6 hour drive! Sure hope you can make the move back happen!
