Growing up, I was FORCED to stay outside, besides, I LOVED it...I would play until dark and out west here, total darkness doesn't hit until 2130 hours in the summer!

My two boys spend most of the time outside doing things like riding bikes, baseball, football, building forts, fishing in the pond, etc.
A lady a few houses down doesn't LET her kids play outside (ages 6, 13, 14). She thinks it's too dangerous, and we live in a very rural area with only a few houses, not in any city.

Ahh the good days.. I remember like 6 years ago there were always groups of us riding around, either skateboarding, bmxing or rollerblading at the vert ramp down the road...A good 10 to 15 of us...Sadly everyone sort of grew up and got jobs (except me:) And now there appears to be far less people doing those things.. I BLAME PS2

We have 4 boys, now 16, 15, 13, and 11.
Three years ago we moved out of subburb hell where you have to drive to everything and moved right in the center of a little town of about 1500 with only two stoplights. The schools, the parks, the library, the public pool, convenience stores, a bowling alley, most of their friends, the bus stop (for me) and many other places are only a short walk or bike ride away. A skating rink are about 3 minutes away by car. They go out a good amount. They still get their video games in though. This town has a few problems, but it's about as safe as it gets. We live right across the street from the borough police. There's always a lot of people out - kids and adults.

This space for rent.
The kids in my neighborhood are frequently outside in the summer; my 7 yr old DD has a friend that lives a block away (thank goodness!) and there are smaller children across the street that are outside a lot. We have a huge backyard and my son and his friend practice their golf swings out there. I am glad to live in a small town where the kids can be out; DD and friends are either in our yard or theirs and they are finally old enough to know the rules so I can watch out the front window or work on cleaning out the garden and check on them (usually not necessary because I can hear them LOL).
