Another reason I'm proud of my Viet Nam Vet brother!

My siblings and I (6 of us) set up a family page almost 4 years ago when my mother was first diagnosed with Alzhiemers. The main purpose was to share "Mom Info" since we (and the grandkids) are spread thruout this great country.........but when the Elian Gonzales issue surfaced, we quickly realized that added pages would be needed to discuss other issues.

Following is the message posted this morning and I thought many of you would appreciate my brother as much as I do! ...........p

"Here's how it's supposed to work. This morning I went down to the new Walmart to restock on groceries. With Adam and Zack here in addition to Jake, groceries don't seem to last like they used to before we were feeding 3 teenage boys. At the front door of the store, I noticed a teen-aged boy and a matronly looking woman selling boxes of donuts from a table that held a sign saying that they were from a group called "Students for Peace". It has been a lot of years since I saw something like that, but I certianly remember that while my war was being fought, "Students for Peace" was not the type of group that was sympathetic to our cause, but the type that ultimately wound up hurting it. Resisting the urge to render a swift, donut scattering kick to the table, I went directly to the Customer Service Desk and politely pointed out that I did not think that it was the Walmart policy to allow political statements to be made at the entrances of their stores and if it was, I would contact both their corporate offices and the local newspapers to voice my displeasure with that policy. I ultimately wound up talking to someone two managerial levels above the person at the Customer Service Desk and was assured that I was the first to lodge a complaint, that I was certianly right, and that the table would be gone by the time I finished my shopping. It was. (I hate to admit it, but I learned that little trick watching the libs.)"

Petal - thanks for sharing that wonderful story. I have a nephew stationed in Iraq right now. He's with the 101st and he was just recently given the word - he's to be there until February. Kris went over in March. My family has rallied around him like you wouldn't believe. We all took the news so hard, heard he had called his wife, my niece (notice, he's not my nephew-in-law, told him he's a full fledged nephew now) and broke down crying. They were somewhat newleyweds when he went over. We still need to support our troops over there right now. They do hear of protests like this. And you can only imagine what it does to their morale. They want peace too but establishing that in Iraq right now, is a challenge.

Your post was a timely one, at least to me it was - I immediately thought of my nephew, so homesick but also so proud to serve his country too.

Thanks for sharing petal*pusher. I do appreciate it and very much agree with what your sibling did. Most people wouldn't even go to the trouble to say anything....which is very clear by the comment "and was assured that I was the first to lodge a complaint."

I don't have any close family or friends in Iraq, but every time I see a picture or video clip of one of our troops, I look at them with such love and respect, it's as if I know them. Every person over there has family and friends worried about them....waiting for them to come home when their job is done. They have left their family and friends to fight for you and me and we all should support them 100%.

Would we do the same?
