So I just read the end of last Harry Potter book

#1 Postby Regit » Wed Jul 18, 2007 4:48 pm

It's supposedly the end of the book. A few people got their hands on copies. No I'm not posting what happened. But I will say that a lot of people will have the follow reaction:

Anyone already have their Saturday planned so they can read the book?

Someone sent me the link in a PM... Don't have it anymore. But I talked to someone who has heard the spoilers and it was exactly the same. It was an awfully complex hoax if it's not real. The ending is quite ingenious.

I saw it briefly (I quickly hit the "back" button) on Google News. Some paper in Australia had it online.

The book is supposedly on BitTorrent, also. It is a 400+ page .pdf file with pictures (2 pages per pages) of the book. Someone, from the loading dock of publisher,, took pictures of the book with their cell phone. Some of the pictures are so bad (allegedly) that you need Photoshop to read them.

From boingboing.net:

Four days before it hits bookstores, I've got a copy of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." I downloaded it from a link posted at the Bittorrent file-sharing site the Pirate Bay. But hold on. It's not as sweet as it sounds. What I've got is not really the book but a series of photographs of the book -- someone has meticulously snapped shots of each page. Some who've discussed leaked copies say that they've seen only Pages 1 through 495. But the copy I have includes all the pages; I could, if I wanted to, tell you the very last line of the very last Harry Potter book right now.

Whatever. . . I can wait until Saturday when Amazon delivers my copy. :) (Note: I haven't d/l the pdf file. I am not going to. I can wait until Saturday.

I've "acquired" it on pdf as well. It's legit, and the ending is pretty nuts.

A warning for those trying to avoid spoilers about the book until Saturday --

The NY Times is breaking the embargo and posting a review of the book tomorrow.

There is a project to transcribe the pictures of the book to text already. Plus, the person who took the pictures apparently made mistake. The registration # of the camara was left on the picture info and could be used to trace the leaker.

Note: all links spoiler-free, though there are links to the spoilers on the blog I linked to.

This is bugging me...I looked on google (not very hard obviously) and all I came up with was the news that the book was out online. Can somebody send it to me?

The article may have beenremoved from Google or from the newspaper site. Scholastic, Inc is threatening to sue papers. . . I did send you a PM with the link to the article from boingboing.net that had the last sentence in invisiotext and links to the torrents.

why not just wait a day and buy the book? downloading from a site is a form of piracy...

My neice is an assistant manager at B&N in Baton Rouge. They are getting ready for the release of the new Potter book tomorrow and they have all had to sign confidentiality agreements not to leak anything in the book.

It's not like they are canceling their orders after reading it early. Most of the indications suggest that most will go ahead and purchase the book on Saturday after reading the book early. I don't think the leaking of the book will hurt sales. . .

I'm waiting until Saturday, because I just don't have time right now to read it. But on Saturday afternoon . . . the phone calls will be sent to voice mail, the cell will be turned off and I'll be on the deck outside reading . . .

I pre-ordered the book. Just got done re-reading book 6 to refresh my memory. :D Just like you lurker I get the book Saturday, but unfortunately won't be able to read the book till Sunday because of company. But Sunday I will hole up in my bedroom on my recliner and read the book. My husband knows he is on his own Sunday. So I won't be anywhere near the internet Saturday, afraid that I will run across a spoiler. :P Everyone enjoy thier books!!!

I couldn't find the same thing I read, unfortunately. I think the publisher might have gotten to the webmasters and made a few threats.

I found the article in question and PMed it to you.

The book, btw, is now available on Ebay. Deepdiscount.com mistakenly mailed their copies early and quite a few people put up their copies on Ebay. One copy was sold yesterday for $250.00.
