While the heat is still on, the monsoons taking a break, I've got VERY EARLY signs of Autumn starting around me.....wild autumn asters in full bloom, Virginia Creeper vines with a tinge of red to them, skunks out in droves, elk shedding the velvet on their antlers, just a hint of autumn in the evening air, ferns in the woods starting to turn, hornets getting very aggressive and looking for nesting areas...........could this be the shade of things to come???

Winter Predictions already Dennis?!!!!

I have a few leaves turning on two Maples. Just the beginning stages. Based upon last winter's snowfall, I think we'll see a snowy winter again. Now if I can just get hubby to repair the snowblower......LOL! It hasn't ran for years, and we think we used the same watered down gas we once used in a lawnmower. Almost ruined the mower the lawn shop guys said. That bill was minimal - only $25. Now the newer lawnmower only gets Shell gas. But back to the snowblower......I think it just needs the gas tank drained, tune-up, etc. and we'd be back in business! Last year, mid-winter, hubby did admit it would have been nice to have it running. After his back was bothering him from shoveling. I could tell him I read here it's going to be a bad winter? Whadda think? LOL

I'm ready Dennis. I know hurricane lovers - -removed- for Fronts here in texas - pushes all the hurricanes away from us.

I have another month of record heat - but once August is done - we start getting the cool fronts thru here. I can only sit here and dream about them in this 100 degree heat.

Another sign of an early autumn........the Apaches say that you can tell it's gonna be a hard winter by the amount of firewood a whiteman has, well......I've already starting laying in my winters supply "LOL!"

Seriously, my hummingbird count has dropped dramaticly over the past 2 days, instead of filling the feeder 2x a day, I'm down to once a day.

Sure Mary, you can tell you hubby I said so "LOL!"

I've noticed a dramatic INCREASE in my hummers at the feeders here! I was just thinking the other day that they may be getting ready for an early migration. The bluejays are already squallerin' like they do in the fall too!

Many of my perennials seemed ahead of their normal blossoming time........and.........(can't believe it!).....SCHOOL STARTS THE 18TH!

This week I'll be busy doing flowers for a really HUGE wedding, but next week, a friend and I'll be going to the U.P. to finish up our "summer vacation".............tons of wild blueberries just waitin' for us!.........p

No signs yet in these dog days (no offense Annabelle ((you be a ho))

Dewpoint 70 here today and a thunderstorm is brewing out there at lunchtime!

One of our first signs is when the leaves on the Sumac trees turn a bright red. That usually signals the end of Summer.

No signs here either, just humid, sticky...YUCK! (meteorologically speaking). I can't really think of any specific sign other than the haze disappears and we start to get A TON of spiders making their webs.

I hope that is the case for you guys in the SW Dennis!

Dennis, my dad is saying we're going to have an early fall here. It's been so mild, it honestly does seem like early September already (no 90° heat at my location yet this summer; currently 83.7° outside).

I've never seen it go this far into summer without a 90°+ reading...and there's no indications it will occur in the next 7-10 days.

I'm tellin ya.......last nights low here at the house was 43.4°, take that with a high of 91°, doesn't make sense does it? BUT.......even with the 91°, there's *STILL* a sense of autumn in the air, it's hard to discribe.

I'm with ya Bfez.......I *love* autumn, always have, it brings back so many memories.

How intresting you posted this ! A friend and I were sitting on the porch yesterday just relaxing and gabbing when she took a deep breath and said "It smells like fall". Later on last nite(and again tonite) I watched 100's of starlings flocking ! There were so many of them when they took off out of the trees it sounded like a strong wind ! Usually they don't begin to flock like this until the middle of Sept.or a tad later. My black walnut tree has already begun to loose it's leaves.I geussing that's about 3-4 weeks early.

I love fall.It's my favorite season.Have to say tho,we haven't had much of a summer to enjoy.~K

Ed, Marshall is right. :) After temperatures in the 80's and 90's and dewpoints that struggle to below 70 degrees; the temperatures down into the 70's and even the 60's is quite chilly here in central Florida.

It's all relative to your location. ;) For us here in southern California, a high in the low 60s or upper 50's and a low below about 45 is chilly by our standards. ;)

Exactly right, Joshua... it is all relative. Living in southeastern Massachusetts since birth with temperatures as cold as -5ºF to has hot as 102ºF through the late 1970's, early 1980's [which I don't remember much; of course], the late 1980's, 1990's and into June 2000 you would be used to all sorts of weather, generally speaking.

However, when the temperatures there jump upward or downward in an extreme fashion in a day or two, that can be a shock to the system, if you will. :)
