Funkywinkerbean comics

#1 Postby Stephanie » Wed Oct 03, 2007 8:20 pm

Does anyone else read them daily? The last few have been so hard since Lisa Moore is dying of breast cancer.

Stephanie, we also read the comics daily (all 5 of us). I thought for sure yesterday that we were losing 2 characters. Do you also get "for better or for worse" in your paper? Not a good week for the comics.

As for Lisa, I was really afraid that she wasn't going to find out who her son was before she died. I am glad they got that taken care of beforehand.

So much for comics being funny.

My husband, Marty, had pulled out yesterday's comic, so I had to search for it online. I asked him why later and he said that he just wanted to...he's an old softy....

I wish that Les heard Lisa say "I Love You" to him before she passed away today.

I also read For Better or Worse and I thought the same thing. In a way, I hope that Jim's suffering does end.

I saw that too. I hope that this will come to a quick conclusion. The poor man and family has suffered for so long. :(

Funny thing, I haven't seen a FWB comic in SO long, our local paper changes comics like I change my socks...they NEVER keep the same comic for any length of time  For Better or Worse, I know, it's time for Jimbo to go!

Funky Winkerbean has to be one of the most depressing comics out there. Not just because of this storyline but because bad stuff always seems to be happening to the characters.

For Better Or For Worse used to be good, but has really gone downhill the past few years. I hate how Elizabeth is back with Blandthony, er.... I mean Anthony.

Ok, is this it now? The strip has moved ten years ahead and is not going back? It has all been kind of weird since Lisa's death. First it seemed like it was going to go back when he went home to his daughter but then it jumped again.......

Yes, it is permanently ahead 10 years. The artist, Tim Batiuk, has moved the strip ahead before. For instance, it went straight from Funky's high school years to his post college years.

Some close to him say that he intends to have the comic strip be the total story of the characters' lives, rather than just fading into obscurity with Batiuk's retirement or death. There are also rumors that he has the final chapter of the story already completed, to run in case he unexpectedly dies or is unable to continue the strip.
