Home Cold Remedies?

#1 Postby Category 5 » Wed Oct 10, 2007 7:10 am

I think I'm coming down with one, does anybody have any remedies they'd be willing to share?

I usually stick to bed rest (whenever possible) and lots of fluids. Avoid eating anything heavy. Zinc lozenges (like Cold-Eeze) seem to help somewhat despite their weird metallic taste.

Try Echinacea. Its an herbal immune booster. The first time I took it, recommended by the doctor, was 4 days into a strong Flu. 12-24hrs later it was gone. I take it once a week, but you can take it as much as 3 per day. They are horse pills, so if you dont like horse pills, dont take them.

If you dont want pills, eat soup, sleep more, and of course there always is the best medicine....laughter.

My mom used to give me a shot of whiskey or Rock-n-rye with a cup of hot tea at bedtime, always worked for me :D

I got over a severe cold recently, (a stuffy, coughing, sneezing, aching, fever, feel like dying, the devil of all headcolds headcold) and there are three things that got me through it.

Dayquil, Nyquil, and Nintendo.

Best remedies ever!

But, seriously, the "quils" are nothing short of a miracle, you take one dose of it and within 30 minutes, you're a functioning being again. And no one is paying me for anything either, its just true.

By the way, has Kipper been telling you to go eat?Chose Wendy's! Nothing like a juicy Big Bacon Classic to satisfy your hunger!

If you're into hot snacks, try a mix of Andy Capp's Hot Fries and Flamin' Hot Cheetos.

That has always helped me when I couldn't take any medications while on a medical patch study.

I take a combo of Echinacea and Goldenseal and it works wonders on a cold.

A friend of mine who was a cardiac surgeon always drank a shot of very good whiskey every four hours. Sounds like Granny's cure on the Beverly Hillbillies. All I can say is yuck. My cure is mega Vita C at the first sign which I've found helps. My comfort is Campbell soup, Pepsi, and a good book.

I take over 1000units of Vitamin C every day along with Vitamin E. The two work together to boost the immune system. Since I started taking these, I haven't come down with a cold that would make me as sick as my daughter claims to get from just a cold. But then she never takes any Vitamin C or E. I can see her developing osteoporosis in a few years because she already claims to have bone pain in her back. But she hasn't gone to a Dr to have it checked out yet.
