Cuomo Calls on Gore to Seek Presidency...

ALBANY, N.Y. - Labeling the Democratic voices from the presidential field "babble," prominent Democrat Mario Cuomo is calling on former Vice President Al Gore to enter the race for the party's nomination.

Gore, who lost the disputed 2000 race to President Bush, has said he would not seek the party's nomination - a point stressed by his spokesman Michael Feldman. "The vice president is not going to be a candidate in 2004," Feldman said in response to Cuomo's appeal.

Still, Cuomo urged Gore to return to the political fray because the party lacks a single candidate to rally around.

"I would like to see him get in," said Cuomo in an interview with WROW-AM radio in Albany, N.Y.

"Right now, the Democratic voice is not a single voice. It is not a chorus. It is a babble," said the former New York governor. Webster's Dictionary defines "babble," as "to make incoherent sounds, as a baby does, prattle."

In a subsequent interview with The Associated Press, Cuomo said that the Democrats are lacking a "positive agenda, one that the whole party can come around, and a guy like Gore - who has done it, who has it and who can point to it - I think he would be an advantage to the campaign."

Cuomo's comments came one day before Gore was to deliver a speech at New York University on the Bush administration's handling of the U.S.-led war against Iraq and other national security issues.

Cuomo, who contended that "my voice isn't that important," said he had not personally shared his thoughts about the race with Gore.

The former New York governor said he did talk to Gore in 2000, after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Bush's favor to clinch the election, and told his fellow Democrat that he hoped Gore would run for the White House again.

"He did get more votes than the other guy," Cuomo said Wednesday, a reference to the popular vote.

I'll honestly have to see it to believe it (Gore running again) -- but of course, in politics...anything is possible.

I tend to agree with Kelly...if Gore chooses to run and gets the Democratic nomination, I believe GWB will win by a substantial margin. The country has changed a lot since November 2000.

I agree too. The Democrats need one voice to rally around, but someone who is new and fresh. I like Gore, but they won't win with him as their candidate.

The Dems waste away opportunities to come up with serious candidates and true spokesmen for their party. I realize the best people, the ones both parties REALLY want, know better than to get into politics and work best behind the scenes.

But it would be a sad commentary on the party to see Gore as their first choice.

On the other hand, my Republican voting record far outdistances those few times I wandered into the other pasture.

So maybe he should run again.

Could anyone here even begin to imagine what would have happened if Gore had won the recount? What a major fiasco it would have been if Sept 11th happened under Gore's command??!!! That day was bad enough, but could you imagine how much worse it would've gotten?

How do you guys think Gore would have handled the 09/11 bombings?
I am asking because it seriously scares me that it couldve happened......

Bush confronted the evil...and he took responsiblity for you and I. Right or wrong, the decisions he made were those he knew he owned by virtue of his position. I admire the weight he put on his shoulders on our behalf.

Gore, I suspect, would have relied on his inner circle more who, I'm not sure, I would even know. And instead of looking evil in the eye and saying he would not tolerate it on its own level, he would have made condescending statements to those responsible for a failed system and tried to find ways for them to deal with it.

I hate no man, but I do lose respect for some. He is one of them. He is way out of touch.

To be quite honest, I think anyone who would've been in office would've handled the scenerio at least with compassion and anger towards Al Qaeda. I can't imagine anyone not reacting that way. How we would've went about handling the situation though if Gore was elected I don't know.
