Read this stuff here this is what is happening right now at our walmart.

I know you say you'll work at Wal-Mart as long as you can, but I would seriously look into getting a new job somewhere else. Your kids are more important; if Wal-Mart is going to be that selfish and demanding, why do you need them?

The ONLY reason I can give you whatsoever to stay at Wal-Mart is if you absolutely can't get a job anywhere else. It's just not worth it for you or your daughter.

Nothing illegal about it ...Not unless you have it in writing that they hired you with set times and hours which I know they don't do....I use to run a grocery store and if they fired the top management and the DM is running it ...He is there to clean house for the next management..Once they get in they will clean some more then it should start to settle down...I know it sucks now but if you survive it at least you will be higher on the food chain...

Retail is very cutthroat so I am not surprised by this.

I have worked in retail for 18years so I know how it is.ALL the grocery stores I worked for worked with me and my wife. The only reason I took the job at Walmart is to have something for now until a Publix come to our town!!!!!!!Thats where the $$$$ is.My friend wants me back at Bi-lo.I put in 6 years with them.I just got feed up with working off the clock and the labor board would do NOTHING about it.But from what I understand all those mangers were fired.I have a vacation coming soon so I have time to think about it.

I think that Walmart's days of low wages, no benefits and abuse of employee's time are coming to a head. I read that Walmart lost a suit in PA regarding not paying people for breaks and forcing them to work OT without pay.

Walmart has been the "super box" bully for long enough. I think it's starting to bite them where the sun doesn't shine.

Bud - If I were you, I would look for another retail job. Go back to Bi-lo for the time being. It may be better, like you said, since the management is now different.

Best of luck to you!

Walmart comes before your children and family? I think maybe the DM needs to get a reality check on that one. Years ago I worked for Walmart while in college. It was a very harsh job back then but I stuck it out. I didn't have children at the time and I would work the 2-10 shifts which would turn into 2-2 shifts and then have to back in the store at 5am the next morning. I worked the long hours without breaks. I didn't complain much until one day the manager changed the schedules at the last minute and had me coming in during one of my final exams. When I said something about it she said that I either had to come in or if i didn't I would have to get a doctor excuse to keep my job. At the time I didn't have health insurance and she had already said that the local health center on campus would not be acceptable so that meant I would have to pay $$$$$ which I didn't have at the time to keep my job. I took my smock off that moment and handed her the name tag and told her that my school was more important. I signed the papers and stated why I was quitting and she threaten me that if I quit that she would blackball me. To this day I still can't get a job at Walmart. And after reading what this I don't think I want to work for them because I will tell anyone that my girls are more important to me than my job at Walmart!

All of this could be solved by the employees of Wally World by forming a UNION. I have been represented by a union now for 12 years. I would never go back. I was formally a exempt salaried, working all kinds of free OT. I now have a fixed schedule, 40 hour week...MGC

When I lived out in California years ago, most of the grocery store employees were union members. They were making more than I was checking out people. The groceries were well stocked and clean. Wally Worlds down here on the coasts are dumps and constantly out of stock of certain items. Why is it that one hears so many negative comments about Wally World? Ever talk with the employee woking the check out? They are soooo happy to be there......MGC

It does suck to work at wally world...The stores we had in California went on strike for months...In the end the employees lost tons of salary...And ended up still losing what they wanted...They didn't want to pay for benefits while the rest of the company that was not union had been paying for them for years...We even had a division in Nevada shut down because the employees voted in a union...Our company decided it was just cheaper to shut down the stores instead of letting them go union....With the CEO'S of these grocery company's making these crazy salaries its hard for the company's to survive if they go union..
