Discovery Channel: Smash Lab

#1 Postby HURAKAN » Wed Dec 26, 2007 10:53 pm

This new program will air every Wednesday at 10 PM EDT beginning by mid-January. Smash Lab is similar to Mythbuster except that it lacks the excitement provided by Adam Savage. Still, the program is not bad.

Did you see it?? What do you think??

It's waaay similar to MythBusters, but without any point to it. Looks like they just blow stuff up. I'll probably watch it, but without Adam, Jamie, Tory, Grant, and especially Kari, the show likely won't be half as good.

I'm a major MythBusters fan.

Mythbusters is a big hit for Discovery. I'm a big, big fan of the program. It's not just scientific, but funny and its grabs your attention.

"Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe" is similar in that it's scientific, funny, and immediately grabs your attention.

I expect Smash Lab to be cancelled during or after its first season. It's too similar to MythBusters, and not as exciting. They must have told the girl to act as much like Kari as possible.

Exactly my thoughts. Plus, they're blowing things up basically just to see them blow up. Mythbusters at least have a (real*) reason behind there explosions. And MythBusters is more than just big flashy explosions, it's also really educational and scientific, and interesting. I think a lot of MythBusters fans will decide not to watch it. I probably won't.

And there is no other girl like quite like Kari.
(*Smash Lab uses "testing new technology" as a reason for the explosions.)

The technology Smash Lab is testing is pretty impractical, to boot; sure, covering an entire house in Rhino Liner will make it stronger, but it's far too expensive (and ugly) to be practical. That, and how likely is it that your house is made of cinder blocks, and is subject to regular explosions in the front yard?

Haha, excellent point. I'll give it 1 season.

And doesn't that sound exactly like mythbusters?

"The myth is covering your house in Rhino liner will make it stronger.
*small scale tests, full size test, explosion,*
"Well, Jamie, it looks like covering your house in Rhino Liner will make it stronger."
"Yeah, but it's so impractical, and tacky, and useless. Honestly, when will you have an explosion in your front yard?"
"So busted, plausible, or confirmed?"
"Plausible, but impracticle."
*piece of metal with the word PLAUSIBLE welded onto it drops onto the screen in a clever related fashion*

See? Fits right into a MythBusters dialogue.

Actually, nowadays, they would not just rest at an explosion; they'd probably shoot it with various kinds of assault rifles and such. The newer mythbusters are better for the sole reason that they dropped their "cultural expert" (she was REALLY annoying) in exchange for more booms.

The first ad looked "mythbusters" to me when I saw it. Actually, I was watching mythbusters.
