Traditional New Years Day food fare

#1 Postby azsnowman » Mon Dec 31, 2007 6:45 pm

Do you eat any specific type(s) of food for New Years Day?

I fix black eyed peas, I come from a strong southern back ground and black eyed peas are supposed to bring good luck for the coming year....I have yet to miss a NYD without them for fear of superstition My wife fixes Menudo for NYD, it's a southwestern, Mexican tradition...menudo is said to cure ANY kind of hangover (cuz it makes you puke your gutz up!)

Black-eyed peas! Always every year! Half my family is from Georgia and the other from West Palm Beach. I went to my parents and cooked a roast , black-eyed peas and collard greens both cooked with smoked ham hock and mashed tators with gravy! It was yummo! My parents and my daughter were happy campers! Hope that good luck from eating those peas sticks!

HAPPY NEW YEAR YALL!!!!!!! :flag:

Blackeyed peas and cabbage are required New Year's Day foods. I'm not taking any chances... ;)
The blackeyed peas are supposed to bring good luck while cabbage leaves are a sign of prosperity. Eating both on New Year's Day is supposed to bring you good luck and prosperity. It's a tradition I plan on continuing... it's good for you anyway and I like both! :)

This year, I made sausage links, cabbage, blackeyed peas, rice & gravy, corn, and crescent rolls. It was good.
