IRS Warns Taxpayers of New E-mail Scams

#1 Postby CajunMama » Thu Jan 03, 2008 10:32 am

Got a scam email supposedly from the irs. I went to the irs.gov site and they're aware of the scam so BEWARE! There are other irs email scans too that you can read about by clicking the link at the bottom of this post.

IRS Warns Taxpayers of New E-mail Scams

Updated Nov. 7, 2007 — In a variation, an e-mail scam claims to come from the IRS and the Taxpayer Advocate Service (a genuine and independent organization within the IRS whose employees assist taxpayers with unresolved tax problems). The e-mail says that the recipient is eligible for a tax refund and directs the recipient to click on a link that leads to a fake IRS Web site. The IRS recommends that recipients do not click on links in, or open any attachments to, e-mails they receive that are unsolicited or that come from unknown sources.

It's kind of obvious when you think about. I mean, IRS + Tax Refund = total BS, right? Now, if they threatened to audit...

We really did get a refund from the IRS one year......but only as a result of Katrina. Our score card with the IRS is two audits and one refund. The most exciting thing with the IRS is when they send you a certified letter you must sign for and inside is the word "criminal". An examiner in Ogden, Utah named Roger Steele sent me that letter right after I told him he needed a seeing eye dog. Big mistake.
