I agree. If this happens again they should just open fire.

By the way some conspiracy therorists are comparing this to the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

I agree... and not just open fire on the attacking ships, but have a repeat of Operation Preying Mantis... drop at least half of their surface fleet

For once, Derek, I agree with your suggestion of a heavy-handed response. It is the failure to respond to provocations like this that ultimately lead to disasters like the USS Cole incident.

No shots fired = no conspiracy.

But I agree with Derek. They made a threat on US forces in International waters. Destroy them.

Iran is now saying it was an "identification" issue. Now that's a joke if I ever heard one.

Identification issue?

Maybe Iran trying to provoke US to increase oil? To create an argument for nukes? Just throwing stuff out there.

Iranian Commander: Those are either our own ships, or a local friends...lets scare 'em!...xP

HOW could you not realize that those are American ships? They've only been operating in the region for how long now? (overall)...

Frankly I'm surprised they got within 200 yeards without seeing the bottom of the Gulf. That took a lot of restraint on the part of the commanders involved. I'm sure there were a lot ot itchy trigger fingers ;-)

I was about to say those exact words myself.. it did take alot restraint and it is surprising they let them get to within 200 yards.. I trust if they try getting that close again they will end up an oil slick in the Straits of Hormuz

The officers and personnel deserve a BIG KUDOS for keeping their cool.

Next time, treat them like the gnats they are and DROP THEM! :x

I think the situation with Iran will get worse this year. I hope I am proven wrong of course.
