Iran opening a new theater in 'cold war' against US?

#1 Postby Ed Mahmoud » Tue Jan 15, 2008 11:17 am

Details just coming in on bombing targetting US embassy vehicle

Considering Iran and its close ally Syria, and their proxy terror army, the Party of Allah (Hezb'Allah) are behind most of the mischief around Beirut.

Is this thread really necessary? We already have two threads concerning Iran/US tension.

this is a totally different topic. One thread is for the nuke issue and the other is for the naval incident.

Maybe create an all Iran thread, but this topic, IMO, has nothing to do with the other two

Well, then what we do? This theme that Ed is bringing has nothing to do with the Nuclear standoff, nor the Iranian boats issue.Merge this one with the Iran Nuclear Standoff thread,to the Boats thread or leave it as another Iran thread making it to three?

Update from Sky news found at Drudge

A US Embassy car has been hit by a bomb blast which killed four people in Beirut.

No US staff were hurt in attackThe driver was slightly injured and his passenger unharmed when a car bomb was detonated by a suicide attacker.

The dead were local Lebanese and no Americans were killed or hurt.

"There were no American diplomats or American citizens in the car at the time," said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack.

"There were four Beirut residents who do not work for the embassy who were killed in the blast."

A security official said the blast happened in the predominantly Christian Dora-Karantina neighbourhood.

Local journalist Leena Saidi told Sky News the affects of the blast will "reverberate around the area".

She said the car was travelling on a road which would have been crowded with rush-hour traffic.

"In a way it's lucky more people didn't get killed or injured," she said.

That is such a shame. I guess they were surprised no Americans were in it. I am very thankful. Thanks Ed

I would just leave it as it is a separate issue. When there's nothing left to discuss, it will fall down the page, whereas the nuclear standoff thread will likely keep going.

Bombing was apparently an assasination attempt on US ambassador by Iranian orders, while Bush in region.

Today's bombing which targeted a U.S. Embassy car in a northern Beirut neighborhood most likely was an assassination attempt by Hezbollah and their Iranian superiors on the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, Jeffrey Feltman, or senior embassy personnel. The blast killed three Lebanese and injured a local embassy employee as Amb. Feltman was getting ready to attend farewell reception for him before his next assignment. Our special correspondent in Lebanon, "Karim," who has provided valuable information for us here before, reports, "Apparently the bombers didn't know which car in the convoy was his, this one turned off the main road, they assumed it was his and blew it up." He discounts another theory, that a judge on the Hariri tribunal was targeted: "Usually to assassinate a Lebanese judge, they would blow up his car or shoot him to send a message to others."

Retired Lebanese Col. Charbel Barakat, speaking on behalf of the World Council of the Cedars Revolution, considers this terrorist act as directed by Hezbollah's war room against the United States and Lebanese citizens. "It is an act of terror ordered by Tehran's Pasdaran against a U.S. diplomatic target in Lebanon as President Bush is visiting the region. It should be investigated by both Lebanese and international authorities." Col. Barakat warns of further terrorist attacks by Hezbollah against U.S. personnel and targets in Lebanon.
