Meet Doc Holliday

#1 Postby JenBayles » Fri Jan 18, 2008 12:57 pm

After months of heavy-duty nursing our 14-year-old dog, Chica, through the end of chronic kidney failure, we had to put her down 2 weeks ago today. Our other dog, Maggie, made it clear she didn't enjoy being the lone dog in the house, and now we've adopted Doc Holliday! We found him through RecycledCanines.org here in Houston, and he's just a great big, beautiful, suck-up of roughly 3 years. Recycled Canines got him from the Harris County pound just in time to avoid The Needle. They had him for one week prior to our adopting him. In spite of being carted all over town for the past few weeks, he's settled into his new home very nicely, and Maggie is smiling again. So are we! :D

Hope you like walking the dogs! Dalmatians have a lot of energy.

He's a handsome one. :D

He dragged his handler all over the PetSmart sidewalk, but we've had plenty of experience training our other dogs, and don't allow pulling. Doc is now walking like a proper gentleman on the leash. His personality isn't the stereotypical "live wire" Dal either, which is one of the biggest reasons we adopted him. He's perfectly happy following the house rules, and very open to learning them. So far, he's been a great dog - great snuggler too in this winter weather. :D

Hey Yankee! Maggie is doing great! After that horrific impalement accident this summer (2 surgeries, and a total of $7,000 to repair her innards) you'd never know anything happened to her at all. She made a very rapid recovery after her 4 days at Gulf Coast, and once the staples were out, she was right back to chasing squirrels in the back yard. Knock wood - so far there have been no issues at all arising from the incident. We seriously dodged a bullet, and were it not for you and Dr. Ansari providing her first surgery and treatment, Maggie wouldn't be here today getting to know her new buddy, Doc. It's so good to see her happy and playing again after losing her life-long buddy, Chica. Thanks for asking! :D
