Most of their calls and emails are coming from the US.. A lot of the calls have been family members in the US that have family in Jamaica...

The advisory says:
HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 60 MILES...95 KM...FROM
THE CENTER..

That means the hurricane force wind area has shrunk? I thought the prior advisory had it as 70 miles for hurricane force winds. It seemed that the recon has been finding an extended area of hurricane-force winds, so this line of the advisory surprises me.

I think they haven't been through it all yet to determine as it probably goes out more than 100 miles now...

there are those that are refusing to evacuate in Jamaica. They are stressing to please evacuate.

evacuate where, there is no place to go on jamaica except safe shelter, there is plenty

The Jamaica Consulate General and the Diaspora Foundation Advisory Board, Southern United States are co-ordinating emergency relief for Jamaica, in light of the threat posed by Hurricane Dean.

Drop off points have been set up at several churches, including Holy Family Episcopal Church in North Miami, Kendall Community Church in Kendall, and
Holy Sacrament Episcopal Church in Pembroke Pines.

Items being requested include non-perishable food items, batteries, flashlights, first aid kits, battery operated radios, and bottled water.

Persons interested in making donations can make cheques payable to the Jamaica Consulate General (Hurricane Relief) and mailed to the office at 25 Southeast Second Avenue, Suite 609, Miami, FL 33131.

For further information, persons can call the Consulate office at 305-374-8431, extensions 223 and 232.

Diaspora Advisory Board member for the Southern USA, Marlon Hill, is urging members of community associations throughout the Diaspora to be on the alert in their specific communities to collaborate effectively, as preparations are put in place.

Talked to my family about 30 minutes ago... They are listening to the same station with a radio... I'm assuming most people there will be using a radio rather than a computer.

I would not expect the wind strength to remain at 145 mph, as the pressure has dropped to 918 mb. It will take a bit of time for the winds to catch up.
