There's two correlations: (1) 99L was a storm that tried and tried and tried and failed. If only, like the wearied prize-fighter in the story, it had had a piece of steak that morning. (2) I was promised a steak-dinner by another member if it developed.

Thus, the London short story seemed a fitting send-off.
